Pottstown High School Principal Ms. Danielle McCoy announced the Class of 2020 top academic students during the 140th commencement program. Winni Weng, who will be attending Emory University majoring in biochemistry on a pre med track to become a neurologist, was recognized as the Valedictorian. She is proof that the combination of academics and co-curricular activities leads to success. In addition to being a standout classroom student her list of activities included ;lacrosse, cross country, field hockey, National Honor Society vice president, dual enrollment student at MCCC with the early college program, student government, interact club,and Pottstown hospital volunteer. David Hicks was named the class Salutatorian.He will be a cadet at the United States Naval Academy. His career goal is to become a naval aviator. Read More. Congratulations to Pottstown Middle School student,Colin Plank,who performs with the 7/8 band He successfully completed the Zeswitz Challenge for the month of May. Zeswitz, a local music vendor, challenged instrumental music students to submit videos of them performing their instrument once a week throughout the month. Pottstown High School’s 2nd Annual in person Mini-THON to raise money with Four Diamonds to conquer childhood cancer was sidetracked when the event scheduled for March 13, 2020, only one day after Gov. Tom Wolf ordered the Stay-at-Home directive put it on hold. Student leaders Emily Weber, Alex Olvera, Faith Roach, Mackenzie Moser, and Jayniana Williams were not about to let a pandemic quarantine stop their efforts to help those in need. They went virtual with an 8-hour long dance marathon full of games, activities, music. Over 50 high school students signed up to participate in the Mini-THON. Top fundraisers were Faith and Jayden Roach with a total of $800! Part of a year long effort which included a Powderpuff Football game, restaurant night, and bake sales they raised $6,783.85 .All money raised is donated to Four Diamond who funds family care, specialty care providers, and cancer research to children and families battling any form of childhood cancer. Student organizer Emily Weber speaking for the students and sponsor high school teacher Vickie McShea said ,we are proud of PHS students who are so willing to give of themselves to help those in need. We may never meet any of them but we will have helped make their world a better place to live in. We at PHS are proud partners in the fight with Four Diamonds. Read More. Thanks to all of the parents who organized the car drive by parade and to all the teachers and community members who supported the celebration for the PHS Class of 2020. Over 100 cars along with fire vehicles traveled a route past each of our elementary schools. The driveway between the middle and high school was lined with pictured yard signs of each of the seniors.Teachers shot a video saying personal words of praise and encouragement for each senior, it will be posted when complete.
