Tombos is an archaeological site located at the Third Cataract of the Nile River in modern-day Sudan. Tombs dating to the New Kingdom (mid-18th Dynasty) through the Napatan period are present, documenting the interaction and entanglement of Egyptian colonists and local Nubians during these major sociopolitical changes in the region.
يوجد موقع تمبس الأثري بالقرب من الشلال الثالث علي نهر النيل في السودان الحديث. وجدت بالموقع مقابر دلت علي فترة تاريخية ممتدة من المملكة المصرية الحديثة (منتصف الاسرة 18) الي مملكة نبتة كما توثق مدي الأتصال و التداخل ما بين المستعمرين المصريين و النوبة المحليين خلال هذه التغيرات الاجتماعية السياسية في المنطقة

خلفية عن المشروع
The Tombos team has been excavating at Tombos since 2000 with support from the National Science Foundation (BCS grants 0917815/0917824, 1359210/1359496, 1128950). Excavations continue in 2020 on the tumulus cemetery and settlement areas with support from Purdue University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. The impact of regional climate change on the isotope signature of bioavailable strontium is being invested with support from the National Science Foundation (BCS grant 1916719) to characterize isotope variability and better understand human mobility in the region.
