Brain's latest Impact Factor is 11.337. Discover the neurology research making an impact in the field with a collection of highly cited papers fromBrain. AbstractHatton et al. analyze diffusion tensor imaging data from a large, international imaging dataset, including 1,069 controls and 1,249 patients with epilepsy. They find robust white matter abnormalities in the corpus callosum, cingulum and external capsule bilaterally, with differing severity across epilepsy syndromes. AbstractUsing shotgun metagenomic sequencing of faecal DNA from 40 Chinese patients with Parkinson’s disease and their healthy spouses, Qian et al. identify 25 gene markers that distinguish the patients from both healthy and neurological controls with high sensitivity and specificity. AbstractMice lacking GAD1 show neonatal mortality, but the human phenotype associated with GAD1 disruption is poorly characterized. Neuray et al. describe six patients with biallelic GAD1 mutations, presenting with early-infantile onset epilepsy, neurodevelopmental delay, muscle weakness and non-CNS manifestations. Evidence is emerging of sexual dimorphism in Alzheimer’s disease. Fan et al. show that sex-matched polygenic hazard scores are better at predicting age at onset and neuropathological manifestations than sex-mismatched scores, implying that effects of autosomal variants may differ between the sexes in the temporal domain. Disorders of consciousness are challenging to diagnose. Hermann et al. identify a new clinical sign, the habituation of auditory startle reflex, which indexes the activity of a fronto-parietal network and predicts improved consciousness at 6 months. The measure could be a new bedside sign of minimally conscious state. Jäckle et al. profile slowly expanding lesions in progressive multiple sclerosis, and reveal a preferential accumulation of M1-type differentiated microglia along lesion edges. Microarray analysis shows increased expression of genes related to immune function, metabolic processes and transcription/translation. Why not for our brain? You can’t treat what you can’t measure, bottom line. Therefore, we must first know if brain injuries, like concussions, have significantly affected brain function.Blog post| Read article | All blog posts Author resources Learn about how to submit your article, our publishing process, and tips on how to promote your article.Find out more Want access to Brain?
