OC Teen Arts Fest Recognizes Students for Outstanding Achievement June 9, 2020-- The 2020 Ocean County Teen Arts Festival announced its winners for Outstanding Achievement on Friday June 5. Among them were several High School North students including junior Tara Peterson, who walked away with the big $500 prize in the Prose category for her short story, "The Ride. Intermediate East's Online Bullying Prevention Production Under normal circumstances, members of the drama program at Intermediate East performs live for incoming fifth graders to promote anti-bullying awareness. This year, the drama students decided to take the program virtual and created Stop the Drama 2020! Watch: IE Students Create Freestyle Raps About Quarantine Students in Dr. Melson's Intermediate East Chorus learned about improvising through freestyle rap in the style of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit Broadway show "Freestyle Love Supreme." Ocean County YMCA Offering Virtual Learning Support May 14, 2020--Staff at the Ocean County YMCA-- which has been providing Crisis Food Boxes to needy families for the past several months-- have shared another resource they've made available for parents. High School East Thespians Donate 300 Lbs of Food High School East Thespian Troupe #3459 collected more than 300 pounds of food which they donated and delivered to Fulfill May 8. The food bank-- which recently enacted the #FindFood program-- will in turn ensure that the food donations remain local and are provided to families in need in Toms River and Ocean County. New Jersey Cancels Statewide Student Assessments March 25, 2020 -- The district received guidance from the NJDOE regarding the cancellation of statewide student assessments due to the continued threat of COVID-19 and resulting school closures. Schools Closed 3/16-3/27 due to Coronavirus In our effort to limit social contact to stem the spread of virus COVID-19, schools will be closed and all activities canceled Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 27. LARGE SCHOOL EVENTS POSTPONED FOLLOWING STATE RECOMMENDATION Large gatherings nationwide are being cancelled or postponed as a precaution against the spread of the novel coronavirus. Locally, the NJSIAA announced it will continue its athletic calendar without fans. This afternoon, Governor Phil Murphy strongly recommending the cancellation of gatherings of more than 250 people. The district will follow that recommendation until further guidance is received. Schools will post information on specific cancellations (ex. plays and other community events). The bill, A-6029, requires the Department of Education to release to school districts the data and software program used to calculate aid allocations.
