After discussion with the Board of Directors, this is to advise that we are shutting down the Curling Club early for the holidays. The shutdown is effective immediately. The Board is making this decision voluntarily in light of the recent positive COVID cases in our area. We have not been directed by Public Health to do this. This decision was not taken lightly. Our plan is still to resume curling on Sunday, January 3, 2021, provided that conditions have improved. Until then, there will be no activities at the Club. The Club will be fully cleaned in the meantime, so that it will be ready to go after the holidays. As a reminder, registration is open on the website for the next evening curling sessions. You can register until December 28th. Also, we have almost sold all of the Club 200 tickets, and I anticipate we will be able to make the initial draws next week. Winners will be notified, and payments will be done electronically. Please let me take this opportunity to wish you and yours the best over the coming Holiday season. Please stay safe, and (fingers crossed) we will see you early in 2021! Cheers,Mike The Dwight Johnson Christmas FunSpiel has been cancelled this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to see you all next year. CLICK HERE FOR THE RETURN TO PLAY PLANUpdated - September 25, 2020This plan has been created to give you as much of a clear picture on what curling will look like this season as we possibly can. It covers everything from when you arrive at the Club to when you go home. It is also contingent on the Province allowing curling clubs to open. As of today, we have the green light to open if we want to. The Plan is not short, and I appreciate that it might not be much fun to go through it, especially while we are all still enjoying our summer. I can't really say that I had much fun writing it, so I guess we're all in the same boat! This plan is different from the one that was published by the NSCA in that this plan covers everything that will be different off the ice. The NSCA plan basically covers what will happen on the ice. Please take the time to at least glance at it. In the near future, we will be initiating a membership survey to try and gauge how many people are still going to curl this season. Ultimately, as long as the Province is still saying we can open, our registration numbers will be the deciding factor in whether we start making ice. The survey is intended to try and give us an idea of where things stand. I promise it will be short. As you go through the Club Plan, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and I will answer them as best I can. The Nova Scotia Curling Association's Return to Play Plan has been approved by the Province. This is great news in that it is the first step that had to be taken in order for Clubs to consider opening and getting back on the ice for this coming season. If you want to have a look, the plan is available on the Nova Scotia Curling Association website. CLICK HERE Also available are a series of questions and answers about the plan. CLICK HERE What does this mean for the Berwick Curling Club? Each Club is different in many ways...different numbers of sheets, different square footages in the lounge, etc. Each club is therefore required to come up with their own plan on how to re-open. The plans do not need to be submitted for approval...but they are subject to inspection. Therefore, any plan for the Club must line up with the NSCA Return to Play Plan. If you review the NSCA plan, keep in mind that the plan for the BCC may be different in certain ways...however, the NSCA plan will give you an early look at what curling will look like this season. Over the course of the next two months, we will do the following: 1) Finalize a Return to Play plan for the Berwick Curling Club that will include how things will run both on and off the ice. Once the plan is approved by the Board of Directors, it will be shared with the membership. 2) Initiate a survey of our membership that will be designed to tell us whether you intend to curl this season or not. Ultimately, I feel 100% confident that we can create a plan for the Club that meets, and in many cases exceeds, recommended guidelines. However, even if we have a great plan, if enough people choose not to curl, the projected financial impact may be great enough that it will make more sense not to open. That's why we need to understand clearly how many people will be curling this season. Should anyone have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out through the Club's e-mail.
