Scientists from the Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center capitalize on their diverse expertise to answer scientific questions shaped by the environments of the western United States. We collaborate with each other and with partners to provide rigorous, objective, and timely information and guidance for the management and conservation of biological systems in the West and worldwide. Qualitative assessments of rangeland health using observable indicators help managers make informed land management decisions and communicate findings with the public. The western purple martin is a species of conservation concern throughout the Pacific Northwest. Seed removal by granivores, such as rodents and ants, influences plant distributions and abundance, and may favor invading exotic plants if granivores selectively remove seeds of native species. Year Published: 2021 Weed-suppressive bacteria effects differ in culture compared to in soils and with or without microbial competition and separation of active ingredient Weed-suppressive bacteria (WSB), specifically the D7 and ACK55 strains ofPseudomonas fluorescens, were previously reported to selectively inhibit growth of invasive annual grasses (IAGs) that have caused severe ecosystem degradation across much of the western US. However, recent studies show highly mixed evidence for WSB effectiveness in... The 2015 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listing determination of “not warranted” was in part due to a large-scale collaborative effort to develop strategies to conserve GRSG populations... However, these assessments, which are commonly generated for large regional areas, suggest management options in general terms...
