Description:

welcome ... Nano/Bio Interface Center at the University of Pennsylvania is a Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) bringing together researchers from the Schools of Engineering and Applied Science; Arts and Sciences; and Medicine. The NBIC exploits Penn's internationally recognized strengths in design of molecular function and quantification of individual molecules. The Center unites investigators from ten departments to provide, not only new directions for the life sciences, but also for engineering in a two-way flow essential to fully realizing the benefits of nano-biotechnology. To learn more about the center, check out our [ latest video ] New chromophores combined with synthetic polypeptides are assembled with nanotubes and wires into functional devices to explore the physics of molecular optoelectronic function. electronics. Molecular Motions Novel techniques manipulate and characterize molecular motion of motor proteins, DNA, and protein folding, exploiting microfluidics and surface engineering to control local environments. A cross-cutting initiative advancing next generation electronic and near field optical local probes, and providing access in a multi user instrumentation facility. Engaging Globally and Locally A variety of constituencies from the research, business, education, health, and communities provide a portfolio of programs to educate and provide insight to societal implications of nanoscale science and technology. The Nano/Bio Interface Center Probe Facility are available for external use. Our scanning probe microscopes and probe stations can image and measure electrical and mechanical properties of advanced materials in a variety of environments over a broad frequency range with up to nanometer spatial resolution. Staff support is on hand to help you plan and carry out your tests and experiments.
