October is the rescheduled 2020 Southwest Michigan Cultural Membership Exchange month. Members of the following six cultural attractions; Air Zoo, Binder Park Zoo, Gilmore Car Museum, Kalamazoo Nature Center, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and the Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) Bird Sanctuary and Manor House can visit each destination free of admission charge when they present a valid membership card and photo ID. Not a zoo member? We continue to take careful measures in the park to keep our guests, staff and animals safe and healthy. We ask you to do your  part to PROTECT the HERD by following these guidelines during your visit:Face masks are RECOMMENDED to be worn in the park, but will be REQUIRED in all indoor spaces per executive order 2020-160. Masks must also be worn in the restaurant until you are seated at your table, per executive order 2020-161Practice social distance, stay 6 feet apart from others not in your groupWash your hands often use hand sanitizer liberallyBe patient as you wait in line Take turns at animal exhibitsHAVE FUN!Because safety is our first priority, here are some changes you should be aware of which will be subject to change:There is NO goat feeding or duck feeding at this time. Additionally, NEVER feed any of the animals at the zoo, including the roaming peafowl There is NO face painting at this timeZooKeeper Tails, Animal Encounters and Guided Tours have been suspendedGiraffe feeding is available, but masks must be worn and sanitized hands are required. Only children under the age of two are exempt from wearing masks. Be aware that this is a Binder Park Zoo rule to keep animals safe- not a state mandate. Only guests who purchase lettuce snacks are permitted on the Twiga Overlook deck, and only three groups separated by a barrier at a time. Twiga Overlook closes each day half hour prior to the zoo closing time.The Adventure Station is closed.Beulah’s Restaurant in the East Zoo is OPEN for full service every day from 10:00 am-3:30 pm.Kalahari Kitchen in Wild Africa is CLOSED Monday- Friday. Check back for weekend updates!Safari Gift Shop Zawadi Traders are open but must limit the number of guests at a time. Drinks and snacks are available at both locations.The Z.O. O. Train and Binda Conservation Carousel are not in operation at this timeThe Wilderness Trams are transporting guests to Wild Africa and back at no charge. Guest seating is modified for social distancing and trams are thoroughly disinfected between each run. These steps may affect wait times. Guests can opt to walk the .5 mile, 15 minute route to and from Wild Africa - a trek that is uphill there and downhill back.Admission may be purchased daily until 3:30 pm - or 30 minutes prior to the zoo closing at 4 pm. DININGBeulah’s Restaurant in the East Zoo is OPEN for full service every day from 10:00 am-3:30 pm.Kalahari Kitchen in Wild Africa is CLOSED Monday- Friday. Check back for weekend updates!SHOPPINGSafari Gift Shop is located at the zoo exit and is where you’ll find unique, affordable gifts and apparel for everyone.Zawadi Traders is now open, come check out all the new wild gifts!Restrooms are available for use inside Binder Park Zoo.Binder Park Zoo has implemented a series of safety measures based on guidelines developed by the CDC, the state of Michigan, local public health officials as well as other AZA accredited zoos for the safest operational plan possible.  These protocols are regularly reviewed, and updated as needed. Signs are posted throughout the zoo reminding guests of personal responsibility and complimentary sanitizing stations for guest use are available throughout the facility. Zoo staff follow protocols including wearing face masks and depending on their position, gloves too. Protective shields have been installed in areas where transactions occur, and a rigorous schedule of cleaning and sanitizing is strictly adhered to.Please enjoy your zoo visit but also remember to help PROTECT THE HERD while you’re here.
