Advocate Educate SupportWe recognize adoption as a complex, lifelong, and intergenerational journey with ongoing impact for all those whose lives are touched by it.Adoption Network Cleveland and Adoption Knowledge Affiliates have joined forces to present “Journeys of Discovery: Navigating the Intersections of Adoption,” a virtual conference to be held on Friday & Saturday, October 23 & 24, 2020! This amazing opportunity will bring together the expertise of both organizations to offer presentations by national and state experts on adoption, providing opportunities for members of the adoption and foster care community as well as adoption professionals to receive support and skills, gain knowledge, and network with others. The conference delivers two full days of educational and supportive content. Professionals can expect CEUs for Social Workers and Counselors (including ethics) and ample networking opportunities.Our MissionAdoption Network Cleveland connects and empowers individuals, organizations, and communities impacted by adoption and foster care, providing a source of healing for those in need since 1988. “Connecting with her birth family, exploring and engaging with other adoptees in the community, and the relationship my wife has with Adoption Network personally have given her more than I can even express and gave us the foundation to continue onward with our own little family.” Blogger Mindy Stern shared an article this month that hit home for many of us. She proposes that much of what the wider world knows about adoption is wrong. The primary adoption vernacular of “Better,” “Chosen,” and “Grateful” is an idealized version of adoption that not only is inaccurate but also harmful for the adoptees that adoption is trying to “save.” Adoption is so much more complex and filled with loss, with grief, with unknowing, love, joy, and pain. Adoption Network Cleveland welcomes AmeriCorps VISTA member Olivia Yamamoto! Olivia will be with our organization for the next year, providing expanded capacity in grant research and writing as well as support for our donor engagement strategies. Meet Kayla Vonderau! She will spend the next year with Adoption Network Cleveland as our Communications & Outreach VISTA as part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
