At Madroña, we make exceptional wines that are a simple, yet powerful, reflection of this special place, meant to be enjoyed at table with family and friends.

Our last tasting reservations is at 4pm, but we remain open for purchases until 5:00. All of our tastings are held outside and reservations are suggested, but we do accommodate walk-ins as we are able. Tastings cost $15.00/taster and of that $5.00 can be applied to a purchase of wine. Our tables sit 6 comfortably, and reservations should be made for all sitting at the table, including children. We do allow well-behaved dogs on a leash, and they must remain with you at the table.

We do have a masking policy in place to protect of employees who are constantly using their taste and smell to perform their job. Masks are not required at our outside tasting tables. However, we do require masks to enter the winery. We appreciate your respect of our employees.

Madroña’s exceptional mountain elevation vineyards offer perfect growing conditions for the wide range of Rhône and Bordeaux varietals we grow here. Well-drained soil and mild temperatures throughout the year produce grapes with mild acidity and optimal maturity. This distinctive fruit creates the perfect foundation for our unique family of estate grown and bottled wines.

Situated at 3,000 feet in the El Dorado County Appellation, Madroña consists of three family-owned vineyards — our Madroña vineyard, located in Apple Hill, and our Enyé and Sumu-Kaw vineyards, located in nearby Pleasant Valley. These three unique vineyard sites are planted with over 26 varietals, carefully selected for their unique winemaking characteristics and blending qualities.

Single Vineyard Wines

Madroña Single Vineyard wines are small lot offerings sourcing distinctive fruit from each of our three vineyards – Madroña Vineyard, Enyé Vineyard, and Sumu-Kaw Vineyard. Each highlights the unique varietal characteristics and terroir of the specific vineyard site from which the fruit is harvested.

As we taste through the barrels before final blending, we invariably come across a barrel that is positively special. The character may be intense, subtle, unusually fruity, or complex. It screams to be bottled separately to retain the unique aspects that show the exquisite nature of our diverse vineyards. Single vineyard lots, which are traditionally bottled unfined and unfiltered, exhibit a purity and a sense of place seldom seen in California wine.

Visit Madroña

During Covid, visiting Madroña is a little different. Our tasting room is open daily from 11-5 for wine pick-ups and orders. We are open for tasting daily. Reservations are preferred, but we do take walk-ups if space allows. Our last reservations is at 3:30, and we will take walk-ups until 4:00. Our tastings include two flights of our wines and cost $15.00/person. We discount your tasting by $5.00 when you purchase a bottle of wine. Club members receive 2 complimentary tastings per visit. Come in and check us out! You will enjoy our friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Location

Madroña Vineyards is located 45 miles East of Sacramento on U.S. Highway 50 in the heart of Apple Hill and the California Gold Country. From Highway 50, take the Carson Road exit (5 miles east of Placerville), go west on Carson Road 1/4 mile, turn right through High Hill Ranch. From the winery, it is only a 55-mile drive to South Lake Tahoe and the mountain resorts.
