Welcome to December! Can you believe this is the last month of 2021? Time goes faster and faster.

This is going to be a little bit longer newsletter since a lot has been going on.

CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE:  We are thrilled to announce we are having bake sales again and we will start with our upcoming Christmas bake sale. The bake sale will be December 18^th, 11a.m. to 3p.m. at Petco, 6596 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. We have missed doing the bake sales. It is a chance for us to help the cats, and at the same time visit with friends, new and old. It is a lot of work, but always enjoyable. We hope this will be a tremendous success because our cats really need it to be. Hope to see you there.

PASTEL PET PORTRAIT RAFFLE:  One of our incredibly talented artist friends, we are fortunate to have several talented friends, is donating her skills to a raffle that will be drawn at our Christmas bake sale on December 18^th. Jeanne Marie Reed will do an eight-by-ten pastel of the raffle winner’s pet. This is a very cool thing, and we cannot wait. Tickets are available now at $10 for one and three for $25. We will be selling them throughout our local area. They will also be available during the bake sale. PayPal does not allow raffle payments, so we would have to use other means to collect for them. You can mail a check or money order to: Yogie and Friends, 128 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027 and provide your contact info should you be the winner and we can contact you.

TRAP/NEUTER-SPAY/RETURN (TNR):  Most people are familiar with the term “TNR.” Many are not. What TNR means is we humanely, and safely, trap feral cats, get them spayed or neutered, rabies vaccinated, then return them to their colony. This is a critical part of reducing the feral cat population versus the sad attitude of trapping and euthanizing. Feral, or what we often call, community cats, do serve a positive role in the community regarding the rodent population. A well-managed colony does have its place in the community. A huge part of this though is educating the community that it has its place. Too often people complain about cats using their gardens as litter boxes, or footprints on their cars. Personally, I would rather cat footprints on my windshield than a rat problem. There are many well-managed colonies that you may be unaware of. When we say “managed” it is the people who do the TNR and then feed the colonies. They care for these often-misunderstood cats the best they can. It is an incredibly good program.

Recently, we had seen an increase of stray/feral cats, on the Yogie property in Frierson. We have not had a problem out there in the past. Yes, we would see the occasional cat, but recently we found a litter of four kittens about 3 weeks old. We saw the mother was caring for them, so we waited until we knew the kittens were a safe age to get from mom. There was another litter from, we think, the same mother. Tim put safe traps out and in one night trapped eight cats. Five were kittens and one we had seen with a leg injury was successfully trapped. We got him to our vet and the leg required amputation. So sad that such a young kitten was so severely injured. He is awesome and was adopted the day before Thanksgiving. Eight cats are now fixed that could have produced more than 144 cats over a year. TNR works!

CATS AND KITTENS:  As mentioned above in TNR, Tim safely trapped eight cats. Five were kittens around three months old. All eight were spay/neutered. The adults who could not be socialized were returned to their colony and are doing well. They always have excellent food and shelter. The five kittens were taken into the location our director manages. All five kittens have come around to being handled and socialized. They socialized faster than we expected, which we are thrilled about. The window for socializing kittens is small. Two of the kittens, Dunkin, the kitten with the leg amputation, was adopted on the 23rd of November. Brigid was adopted on November 26^th by our vice president. Both have settled in their new homes nicely. We hope the other three get adopted soon.

On November 5^th, our director was outside working in her yard and heard what she knew to be crying kittens. She followed the sound to her neighbor’s back yard two houses down. Four tiny kittens walked out from under some trash. They looked to be about three weeks old. Since she did not want to take them from their mom, they looked healthy and cared for, she put them in a large, plastic box, under a covering from rain, and put one of her security cameras to see if mom was coming to care for them. She needed to know exactly which feral was the mother. She successfully identified the mother, who thankfully left the kittens where she relocated them, always the risk mom would have moved them, and monitored them until she knew the time was safe to trap mom. On November 14^th, the director successfully trapped mom with a drop trap and put mom in a two-story ferret cage, then brought the kittens to her. Mom has mellowed quite a bit and the kittens are beautiful and healthy. Three black, and one gray tabby. One female, and three males. This was an important trap since mom had a litter of five just five months previous. Then there is our Thanksgiving Miracle.

MIRACLE:  On Wednesday November 24^th, our director noticed one of the little black kittens in the litter of four was not acting right. It seemed a little lethargic and was isolating. It is never a good sign when cats or kittens isolate. The kitten also did not appear to be nursing. Our director brought all four kittens to the vet that morning to be seen and there were no obvious signs of illness. The kitten, the only female, was being monitored hourly. At one point the kitten was found unconscious, face down, in the litter box. She was immediately taken out, cleaned, and then lost consciousness again. It appeared she had died, but the director looked closely and saw shallow breathing and dilating pupils. At that point we all felt hope was lost and the kitten was quickly dying. She was wrapped in a clean, soft, towel, and held. Suddenly when the director gently rubbed the top of the kitten’s head, she made a faint meow. She lifted her head and the director put a tiny drop of honey on the kitten’s lips. She was then rushed to the emergency vet clinic. Upon arrival the kitten kept meowing and sat up! When she picked up the kitten to hand to the tech, the kitten purred! The vet said she was a bit wobbly, appeared blind, but was otherwise okay. It was decided to leave her overnight and be monitored. Throughout the night she got stronger, can see well, played, ate, and drank, and became the darling of the vet staff. She was spoiled the entire stay. The kitten was aptly named, Miracle. She was our Thanksgiving Miracle. We do not get many of these. Miracle is back with mom and siblings and will be getting a medical checkup and see if they are all clear for adoption. Miracle! We believe in miracles.

CAT CORNER:  We call the five kittens that were safely captured at Yogie, The Lucky Charms. We have Dunkin (the one who had his leg amputated), Declan (Gray Tabby), Fiona (Tuxedo), Enya, and, Brigid, who are Dunkin’s litter mates, and they are gray and white. All the kittens have socialized very well. They are all spayed and neutered and have begun their kitten vaccinations. Two, Dunkin and Brigid, have been adopted and are doing great. We are working on getting them adopted and are thankful for a successful TNR.

FOOD AND LITTER: We could really use some help with cat food and litter. Since things have been shut down for so long, we had no opportunity to do our normal fundraising. We hope you can help us in this area. What we use for our cats is Purina Naturals, Friskies Canned Pate, and Fancy Feast Pate. Regarding litter, any scoopable is good. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.

We do not do any giveaways such as shirts, merchandise, etc., as part of the sponsorship. Many fans agree that it is an unnecessary expense that takes away from the donation you are sending. We do, on occasion, get fans who will donate things such as magnets with our name on it that we will send our fans. We want to make the best use of your donation for our cats. Greetings Yogie Fans!

November is already here and there is so much we hope to accomplish for the cats. We can only do so with the help of our friends, and we so appreciate the help you have provided over the years. Thank you for that.

Thank you to those who came out to the Paws in the Park event. It is always an enjoyable time to see, and catch up, with friends both new and old. It was a great day.

TNR: Trap-Neuter-Return, is when we humanely trap feral cats, take them to get spay/neutered, rabies vaccinated, then returned to the colony we trapped them. This is the best way to control the community cat population. At the sanctuary property we have not had to do much of this over the years. That has changed. This year we have had more feral cats than we have ever seen on the property. It is from Frierson building new homes, people moving and leaving cats behind to fend for themselves outdoors, we just do not know. We just know we have a new problem, and we are getting it under control. It is a shame these cats are in this situation. It is not their fault. It is not ours either, but we need to rectify this situation. We have been caring for these cats on our property, but it seems there were many more births than we even knew about. One cat had two litters. On Wednesday evening, October 27^th, eight cats and kittens were successfully trapped and brought in to be fixed. One kitten we knew had a possible broken leg and we were thrilled to have successfully caught him. Our director took him to Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic and this young baby, 3 months, had a poorly healed compound fracture just above his ankle. We cannot imagine how much pain he experienced at such an early age. On Friday, October 29^th, his leg was amputated, he tested negative for FIV/FeLV, was vaccinated, and is spending his healing with the director. He is coming out of his shell and likes her. He is playful and gets around like nobody’s business. He is quite fast and adept. We hope to get his four littermates socialized as well. We believe there may be four more needing to be captured. But, to get eight cats fixed in one day is great. Unfortunately, it costs to do all this and the injured kitten, the receptionist named, Dunkin, cost $800. It would have been much more without the generous discount we received. TNR is an important thing. This was a huge step in stopping a long line of more feral kittens.

MEDICAL ISSUES:

Mama kitty was diagnosed with pneumonia. This is a bad thing for cats, but we feel she will recover after her antibiotic regimen. She is an older cat, about 12+ years, so it does make it harder on her. This kicked our vet bill to over $1200.

Dunkin’s surgery was over $800.

TNR of the seven feral cats at Robinson’s Rescue, Dunkin was neutered by the vet who did his leg amputation, Is $271, and that included rabies vaccinations. We are fortunate to have a low cost spay/neuter clinic here.

Hello Yogie Fans!

Can you believe it is September already? Where has this year gone so fast? Now, we would really like some cooler temps and that would be awesome. We would love our electric bill to go down! Lol!

Max

MAX: We must sadly report that we had to make the difficult choice to help Max cross the rainbow bridge. In 2005 a Caddo Parish Sheriffs deputy asked us if we would take his very mean cat. Max was about a year old. The deputy had two young daughters that loved the cat, but he would attack for no reason. We love that they all cared enough to give him a chance in another environment. He bonded with our founder. He also mellowed some over the years. Max had been in failing health off and on the past year. His kidneys worsened over the past few months and blood test showed slight improvement, but his red blood count was very bad. He also stopped eating the last day and a half of his life, so we knew he was ready.

Max gently crossed the rainbow bridge. We are happy for his 16 years with us and know we gave him the best life. He is reunited with the deputy that brought him to us.

CONDOLENCES: We want to send our condolences to the family of a special friend, Diane Bartoo Burns. Diane sadly died on August 2^nd after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was an amazing person who loved all animals and would do what she could to help support rescues in their endeavors. She and our director became friends because of rescue, and she was a sponsor to one of our cats. Her death hit us all hard, but more so her son and daughter. We are going to miss Diane a great deal. R.I.P. Diane. Give all our cats a scratch under the chin for us.

CONSTRUCTION DUMPSTERS: On July 15th we paid to have two construction dumpsters delivered to the Yogie property to clear out old concrete and fence materials and get the property leveled out in preparation for new building construction. Sadly, the person who made these arrangements on our behalf with a third party has not delivered as promised. We are sad that someone would do something like this to us. So, we are now out $300, owe our veterinarian over $2000, and STILL dont have the construction dumpsters as promised. Do we have any Yogie fans in the Shreveport Bossier City area that can donate the use of construction dumpsters? We are in Frierson, Louisiana. We really want to get this project done ASAP.

MEDICAL ISSUES:

Smokey: Smokey, our cat that had an aural hematoma in his right ear, has lost seven pounds. That is too big a weight loss for a cat. The vets are going to retest his thyroid levels on September 9^th. He also is on a probiotic since he has severe diarrhea that could be the other cause of his weight loss. Smokey is around 11 or 12 years old, and fortunately he is not showing any geriatric organ issues.

Miss Gray: Our director noticed Miss Gray panting heavily, which is often a very dangerous sign for cats. Cats don’t pant like dogs to cool down and can be a sign of heart issues. We rushed her to our vet and the doctor said her lungs had a slight noise that concerned them. X-Rays showed what looked to be a mass in Miss Gray’s lung, so they performed Cat Scan the next morning. Fortunately, it was not a mass, but appears to be a diaphragmatic hernia. It is a congenital condition that the doctor just recommends watching for now. We are just very happy it is not something more serious. We have had two panting cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that resulted in them dying from heart attacks. We were fearing that with Miss Gray, but so happy this is not the case with her. Of course, the time without any vet bills was short lived. We currently have a balance of $2057.04 on our vet bill. Considering what procedures were done, we are glad it isn’t much higher.

CAT CORNER:

Sunny

Sunny: Sunny is a gorgeous, deep orange in color, FIV+ cat. We were contacted several years ago by Dr. Snyder in Bossier City that he was a positive cat that he did not want to euthanize just for having this diagnosis. He told us he also had a continuous weeping eye condition and would be that way the rest of his life. We took Sunny into the sanctuary and after cleaning his eyes and administering eye drops, we wanted to see if there was something more, we could do for him. He always seemed like he was in pain. He was. He had a condition called, Spastic Entropion, which means the eye lids curl inward, and the eye lashes scratch the corneas. He had ulcers in his eyes. Dr. Core did surgery on his eye lids and Sunny was like a whole new cat. He wasn’t squinting all the time, no sore ulcers, and he started playing more and became an overall much happier cat. We are thrilled he had a successful surgery.

Voodoo

Voodoo. Voodoo was another cat that tested FIV positive and came to us from the same veterinarian, Dr. Snyder. We really appreciate that Dr. Snyder feels these cats deserve to live. He came to us with Sunny, Paisley, and Bubba. They were our first group. Voodoo is a chill cat. One of his ears folds down like a Scottish fold. He is a beautiful, black, longhaired cat. He loves to just lay on your lap and get love.

SPONSORSHIP:  We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a great way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. Greetings Yogie and Friends Fans!

The current situation regarding the coronavirus has taken a toll on so many. We realize we are not the only rescue struggling to make ends meet, but we are unique in the fact that our cats are permanent residents, so it takes a bigger toll on our bank account. Honestly, with the controls on fundraisers, which we understand the caution, and no other real source of steady income, it is stressful. We are trying to get creative with fundraising, but many of our fans are not on social media, which seems to be the way these days, and some do not even have email to send. We are looking into an online auction, but that is something we really must work hard on to coordinate to be successful.

We know we can do it. We have 66 cats, and the 5 kittens, but we have some cats that may be of interest for adoption outside of the sanctuary, and if, and when, a good adopter does come along, we have adopted a cat out.

We thank our friends and fans for helping us through.

 TIGGER: We share yet another, incredibly sad, loss. Many of you have visited and had the opportunity to see our black leopard, Tigger, in person. We are sad to report that Tigger crossed the rainbow bridge on July 6^th. He would have turned 19 years old on July 29^th. We are thankful for the years we had with him, but our hearts will miss his earthly presence.

GATSBY: Gatsby is one of our FIV+ cats. He has been with us since sometime in 2015. Over the past couple of months, we have noticed him losing weight. Nothing too concerning at first, but over the past month it has gotten worse. When we first noticed weight loss the vet put him on a long-term antibiotic for any possible blood borne parasite. The lab work showed some signs that warranted it. But this did not resolve his problems. Some more in-depth lab work was sent out to the lab and we got results in showing a treatable issue. He has been placed on Azithromycin and responding well.  He is currently at Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic on Airline Drive, in Bossier City. He has been there over a week this time. If you would like to help with his vet bill, you can call a donation directly in by calling 318-747-5747. CLAIRE AND KITTENS: Claire and the five kittens are doing very well. We had an issue with two kittens having high fevers, which is known as “Fever of Unknown Origin.” Our vet put all on an antibiotic as a precaution, and the first set of vaccinations was delayed for a week. They did have their first series of shots started on August 4^th, and all five tested negative for FIV/FeLV. We have some adoption interest in them and hopefully soon we will have all five in outstanding, forever, homes. We will miss them though. Claire will be scheduled to be spayed in about another month. We will place her up for adoption as well.

FUNDRAISERS: We are still unable to do our usual bake sale fundraisers, so we are working on some other, creative, ways to raise the much-needed funds for our cats.

June is already here. Where has this year gone? We are already halfway into 2021.

GIVE FOR GOOD: We want to thank everyone who donated and made our Give for Good giving day a success. We appreciate you very much.

LILY: We mentioned Lily in the last newsletter and her having intestinal lymphoma. We are sad to announce that she has crossed the rainbow bridge. Lily had dropped almost half of her body weight. It is always a difficult decision for us, but her little body was so tired, and we knew it was the kindest thing to do. She was a sweet girl who will be deeply missed. Lily (19 March 2006 – 20 May 2021).

MEDICAL ISSUES:

Munch our cat with nasal cancer, has been walking with a slight list to the right, so our director brought her in to see Dr. Core. She has a large buildup of cells and wax that is being treated. She is having Cerumene solution in her ear twice a day, as well as received a steroid shot behind her ear. She is still doing very well despite her cancer, and this current ear situation. She has amazed us all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: For those of you who followed Claire and her kittens on Facebook, well, the kittens are turning one year old on June 2^nd. We adopted three of the kittens out, but still have Claire, and her babies, Bonnie and Yakov. Happy 1^st Birthday to our Weebles.

An update on our director. She completed her radiation treatment on May 19^th. The doctor said she did much better than many and tolerated the treatment without any need to stop due to burns. This is a good thing. So, after 16 chemo treatments, and 33 radiation treatments, she is happy to report that all treatment is done! She feels blessed and fortunate that she found her tumor while it was still stage 1. She knows that not everyone is that fortunate and it is not taken for granted. Her hair is growing in and looks like she has a little Mohawk right now. Lol! But it is all good. She appreciates all the prayers.

It’s May!

MEDICAL ISSUES:

Grayson: Grayson did very well after his second dental procedure. The doctor had to do additional extractions. She did leave his canines and some molars since they did not have any infection. In leaving these teeth it also helps maintain jaw stability. We have been feeding him a gruel mix of Ensure and Purina canned Critical Nutrition diet to get some weight on him and make eating a less painful issue during healing. We are happy to report he is doing great and even caught him running and playing again. We are incredibly happy to see this.

Sunny: Dr. Daville called to let us know that the mass on Sunny’s conjunctiva, and……. NO MALIGNANCY! Dr. Daville was happy to give us some good news following so much recent loss. We have an amazing medical team and are thrilled that Sunny does not have cancer.

Lucia

Lucia: Lucia (Lou Chia) is the white cat we rescued for Dr. Everson of Southern Hills Vet Hospital. She arrived there with a broken jaw and severe ear mites. She has healed well but is deaf because of long-term ear infections. Recently we saw an injury to the tip of her tail we thought may have been the result of fighting. It was superficial and our director treated it accordingly. She healed well, but our director also noticed Lucia was attacking her tail like it was some predator or something. It was very odd behavior. Then, a few days ago she noticed the injury to the tail again. Dr. Joe Scroggs saw a portion of her tail looked black up a little way and that Lucia may be self-mutilating. She had a partial amputation of her tail on the 28^th. She is still growling at her tail but is healing well.

Currently, we do have two cats with cancers. Lily has an intestinal lymphoma, which many cats do not live much longer than six months. Munch is the other cat with nasal cancer, and she has just passed a year since surgery. She is not on any medication for her cancer, but she is doing very well otherwise. She has surprised us all.

On a personal note, regarding our director. She has just completed her 20^th radiation treatment on April 30^th. She hopes to be finished with radiation on May 19^th. She said she is feeling well, has not had any real side effects from any treatment, other than her fingernails turning black, and some fatigue at times. Her tumor was stage one, and this is all just to ensure a “sweep” of her system. She completed her 16^th chemo on March 8^th and her hair is at the “peach fuzz” stage. Lol! She is anxious to get back to doing our bake sale fundraisers and is hoping we can have one in a few months. Paws and claws crossed.

April is here already. We hope our fans are well after some recent, dangerous, storms.

GIVE FOR GOOD: Mark your calendars. Give for Good will officially begin on May 4^th. They will be opening the online giving opportunity on April 20^th. Yogie and Friends will not be doing an event in conjunction with this fundraiser, so we hope our fans will help with their online donations.

JAKE: Jake has sadly lost his long battle with intestinal lymphoma. Back in October 2017, Dr. Core did exploratory abdominal surgery on him and diagnosed him with a condition called, Triaditis. Dr. Dore said he would do well to survive for 18 months post op. Most cats with lymphoma typically last 3 to 6 months. Jake made it an amazing 3 years and five months. This is just confirmation of the great veterinary, and, personal care, all the Yogie and Friends cats receive. Jake was the litter-mate of Sebastian, who died because of kidney disease in December. Jake was a Facebook favorite of our Director’s friends. He was much loved, and he will be sorely missed.     R.I.P. Jake 7 March 2005 – 24 March 2021

MEDICAL ISSUES:

Grayson: We recently noticed Grayson was losing weight. When he was being fed, we also saw he would only take a few nibbles, then run away. Grayson has been diagnosed with Feline Stomatitis. This is a very painful, dental, disease. It is quite common in FIV+ cats. One way to deal with the condition is through complete dental extraction. Some cats do very well after the procedure and can live a long life. Sadly though, many cats just never really continue to have a good quality of life and end up being humanely euthanized. At this time Grayson had the most infected teeth removed, but it appears that is not enough at this point. He is scheduled for a complete dental extraction and our hope is that he will have that quality of life. We will of course monitor his progress closely through all of this. We want only the best for him.

Sunny: Many of our fans may remember one of our FIV+ cats, Sunny, that had chronic eye infections we were told would never improve, we took him to Dr. Core for a second opinion. Dr. Core immediately diagnosed him with Spastic Entropion, a condition that caused the eyelids to turn inward causing the eyelashes to constantly scratch the eyes. He had successful surgery and not one eye infection since surgery in November 2018. A few days before this update we noticed his left eye looked like he had discharge typical of an upper respiratory infection, or possible conjunctivitis. When we cleaned his eyes, the discharge did not come off, so we realized it was something else. On March 30^th Dr. Daville said it was a conjunctivial mass and needed to be removed. They did that on the same day and sent the mass to pathology. These typically are malignant masses, but not always. Our hope is the “not always.” So, we wait for the results.

Smokey: Smokey had to have surgery for his aural hematoma. It was not responding as our veterinarian hoped, but after a second surgery, and nine days in the hospital, it looks to finally have responded to treatment. Unfortunately, they do not know the causes of these, and they commonly reoccur. We hope it never comes back. He is happily back at the sanctuary in our Frierson location.

We had no outstanding vet bill for a change, but here we go again. We are looking at close to $2000 again. If you would like to, and can help, we appreciate any donation. Greetings Yogie and Friends Fans!

It seems like the month of January just flew by so quickly. It is always a time of looking forward, and looking, back, and reflecting. We cannot change the past, but we can look forward and hope that we can do even bigger, and better, things for our sweet resident cats. We know we cannot do this without our amazing fans, and for that, we are grateful for your thoughtfulness, and kindness.

I have not given an update on how I am doing personally regarding my medical care. Let me say that I am a truly fortunate person and that when I found my cancerous lump it was stage 1. I am thankful I was not in a later stage. The surgeon said the cancer is out of my body and he got great margins, during my surgery in August, and that it had not spread, so the treatment I am doing now is just preventative. It is an aggressive treatment, but that is because the oncologist likes to ensure full body coverage. I will say that the new medicine that came out in 2006 made me tolerate the treatment better. I have been able to function as normal. I have a great support system and wonderful care through our local Veteran’s Medical Center. Other than taking a few precautions regarding exposure to illness, which I am taking, and being bald, which does not bother me one bit, I am doing great. I will be finished with treatment by the end of March or early April. I appreciate the continued support and prayers and hope to see you at our fundraisers when we can hold them again.

GIVE FOR GOOD: Mark your calendars, we received an email confirming that we have once again been approved for Give for Good, which is always the first Tuesday of May. So, May 4^th, 2021 will be the date for this year’s Give for Good. This is a 24-hour online fundraiser and is another great way to help our cats.

BIRTHDAY CHALLENGE: I have a birthday coming up on February 24^th. It will be my 61^st birthday and I always do a Facebook birthday fundraiser to give friends and fans a way to donate to the cats. I usually make my fundraising goal a multiple of my age. Last year I made my goal $600 but raised more than $2000. We have awesome friends. This year I will make my goal $610, but if I could make it a super challenge it would be $6100! Once I hit goal, I increase the goal. The fundraisers run about two weeks and our fans really help support this. The only thing is we realize many of our fans are not on Facebook, but you can still help make it an awesome birthday fundraiser. This is a great way to help our cats. The downside though is we do not receive the funds from Network for Good for 45-75 days after the fundraisers end. You can still help via PayPal and selecting the family and friends’ option (it lets you pay the processing fees), or simply mail a check or money order to: Yogie and Friends, 128 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027. If you are on Facebook, we will share the fundraiser on our page.

FUNDRAISERS: We are still having difficulty planning for our regular bake sale fundraisers. The bake sales are a small, but effective, way that we have raised much needed funds over the years for our cats. We often raise anywhere from $900 $2000 per bake sale. We have missed out on three fundraisers since the lockdown. We also enjoy doing them because it gives us a chance to catch up with fans we do not often see and to share information about our mission with people unfamiliar with our sanctuary. We understand that things are still uncertain regarding the coronavirus, and understandably people are nervous. But we are planning on working in one of our bake sales within the next few months with a great deal of safety involved. In the meantime, we hope our fans can continue to help us defray the regular costs of running the sanctuary and continuing to provide and amazing home for our cats.

December has come in like a lion! It was 25 degrees here this morning at our location and being Louisiana, it is not easy for most people, and of course, the animals. Rest assured we were ready for the cold and the cats are safe and warm. We even work hard to ensure our fine, feral, friends have some warm, safe, shelters from the elements.

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to a safe, and happy holiday season. The cats really need our fans more than ever this holiday season with the lack of fundraising capabilities right now. It has not been easy. Our bank account is at a critically low level and we still have food, cat litter, and vet bills, to pay for. None of this is possible without our incredibly loyal fans.

GIVING TUESDAY: Today begins the Giving Tuesday campaign. We do have a campaign currently running on Facebook, but we realize not all our fans are on Facebook. That does not mean you cannot donate to help our cats. The easiest way to contribute to our cause is via PayPal at yogieandfriends@hotmail.com and choosing the Family and Friends option so we receive 100% of your donation. We hope you can help.

VET BILLS: VET BILLS: If you would like to help with our vet bill, you can call Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic in Bossier City, Louisiana, directly at 318-747-5747.

Theo (Tayo) has been in the hospital since November 20^th. His blood work showed he was severely anemic to the point he required a blood transfusion. Some of his lab work has returned unremarkable, so another special lab was sent out and we have not received the results yet. The timing with the holiday has delayed some of the results. He has responded well with antibiotics and the transfusion. He is eating well. If the test results come back as the doctor suspects, then he will continue antibiotics for another two weeks. If not, then he will need a bone marrow biopsy. Since he appears to be responding to the meds, we are hopeful he will not need the biopsy.

Paisley, another cat, who we originally were told by a vet that asked us to take her as being both FIV/FeLV positive and retested negative, is in the hospital right now. She had an enlarged belly and X-rays showed she might have an obstruction. The vet did exploratory surgery and found no obstruction, other than some fecal matter and a great deal of gas, but otherwise clear. She does have a systemic infection of unknown origin, and, has a history of Toxoplasmosis, so, she is now on an antibiotic cocktail and waiting for clearance to return to the sanctuary.

Sebastian, one of our older, non FIV/FeLV cats, is an early stage kidney failure cat, who had to go into the hospital for fluids due to vomiting and not eating. His kidney values were bad this time. He is not on meds three times a day for the rest of his life. He will be 16 years old in March, so, this is not totally unexpected. It is still incredibly sad for us.

Lily, another non FIV/FeLV cat, went at the same time as Sebastian for vomiting and weight loss. She also showed with a systemic infection, was placed on antibiotics, but also showed a thickening of her intestines and belly. She has been placed on Tylosin for the rest of her life. She will be 15 years old in March.

Some of the issues coming up with the cats are not unusual, geriatric, issues. Still, it is a hard thing for us to see happening, and it is also a costly thing. We are currently looking at more than $3500 in vet bills, and no fundraisers currently scheduled due to the coronavirus restrictions. We know we will get through it.

CRITICAL NEEDS: Right now, we need a great deal of help with items such as cat litter and food. We really need Scoopable cat litter, no lightweight as they can present a dangerous ingestion and blockage issue, and we use Friskies canned pate, Fancy Feast canned pate, and Purina Naturals dry food.
