He came to own this song during his very special lifetime.A baseball stadium certainly doesn't offer studio-quality acoustics, and he was no spring chicken anymore, but I think Ray Charles accepted the challenge for his country, after one of the the worst of times ever in America.Here, just a few weeks after the terrorist attacks on September 11th, the great Ray Charles delivered once again and helped his beloved country move forward with a renewed spirit, as no one else could have.Looking back at this man singing this song, it makes me sad that our first black President does not possess the deep and genuine love and respect for America that most Americans of all races share. Saturday Night Live has been amazing as a source of uniquely American humor, for so many years.Here, Zeus summons all the other Greek Gods to a debt summit, to determine how they can prevent the world's original democracy from going right off the financial cliff. Again, in honor of Neil Armstrong, a great American and the first human to step foot on the moon, here is a really nice little retrospective from CBS. Over 40 years ago, in 1969, the late and great American humorist Red Skelton left this great legacy for his beloved country.From his old CBS television show, Red gave us his unique, patriotic perspective (and his prophetic warning) on the meaning and importance of the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. There can no longer be any doubt by any awakened red blooded American, that our constitutional republic is in grave danger and must be vigorously defended right now by this generation of Americans, if we are to preserve the fruits of liberty for future generations.In my own time of sorrow over the obvious damaged state of our culture, I turned to the words of one of my inspirational icons. I have stated before that I believe Bob Dylan is a great American patriot of the highest order, although he is currently not openly political in any way. But I believe he would be proud for some of his wonderful songs to serve as anthems for our present-day efforts to preserve traditional American values and the unprecedented human liberty our Founders endowed to us (if only we can keep it, as Benjamin Franklin famously warned).Dylan s Not Dark Yet is about dealing with a crushing loss. And we must face reality now, because losing the election of 2012 demonstrates that we have already lost much of our uniquely self-reliant culture to those who would have big government, not the free will of individual Americans, control all our life decisions. We are now clearly past the tipping point. We must spread truth and awaken millions more Americans now! It s not totally dark yet, but it s getting there and fast.Official videos of Dylan performing live, other than in his earliest years, are extremely rare. So decades ago a few of his fans began making crude stealth videos from within the audience of live concerts. Over the years, some of these tapers have become quite proficient at capturing very watchable (and listenable) recordings of many of Bob s live performances. These audience recordings are never sold, but instead have been shared freely among various groups of diehard Dylan fans.  Of course, fan-shot videos inherently have certain limitations, as they are typically shot in a stealth manner to avoid drawing attention from venue officials and fellow concert goers in the audience. That means picture sharpness is usually lower, due to very low light within the theatres. Also, the hidden camera can get bumped and/or people can unintentionally block the lens from time to time. And of course, the microphone picks up sounds from the surrounding audience as well as from the performers on stage. But with no offical video of thousands of Dylan concerts, audience videos provide welcome historic records to serious fans. And, with home video equipment improvement over the years, more recent fan-shot videos can be surprisingly high in quality. What I love most about fan-shot audience recordings is that they convey the actual feel of sitting in the venue at a live concert.So now that I have hopefully set your expectations properly, please enjoy the following fan-shot audience recording of Bob Dylan and his band performing Not Dark Yet, at a 1999 concert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
