General InformationUses of Alprostadil
Erectile Dysfunction. Alprostadil is used for the treatment of impotence; where achievingand sustaining an erection is a problem while having sexual intercourse. However, it willwork only if there is sexual stimulation. It is also sometimes used for the diagnosis oferectile dysfunction.Patent Ductus Arteriosus. This medicine is also used for the supportive treatment of abirth defect where a temporary blood vessel does not close soon after birth.Concerns
The amount of time taken for this medicine to show its effect is subject to vary depending on theintended use. The effect can be observed within 5-20 of administration when taken for erectiledysfunction.
The amount of time for which this medicine remains effective is subject to vary based on theintended use. However, this medicine is effective for 60-90 minutes when taken for erectiledysfunction.

Use of this medicine may cause adverse effects and may also worsenbleeding problems.Warnings for special population
Pregnancy. This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Appropriateprecautionary measures should be adopted if your partner is taking this medicine. Contactyour doctor immediately if a pregnancy is suspected while your partner is using thismedicine.Breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.General warnings
Hypotension. Consumption of Alprostadil can cause a mild and short-lasting decrease inblood pressure. Caution should be exercised if you are taking any medication for loweringhigh blood pressure.Other medicines. Alprostadil should be used with caution if you are taking medicines forhypertension, heart disease, etc. Report the use of all medicines, including herbs andsupplements to the doctor.Prolonged and painful erection. Alprostadil should be used with caution if you have had apainful erection lasting for more than 4 hours. This may be due to an underlying conditionlike Sickle cell anemia, Multiple Myeloma, or Leukemia.Bleeding disorder. Alprostadil should be used with caution in patients with bleedingdisorders. Suitable dose adjustment and safety monitoring are advised if the patient istaking medicines to manage the disorder.Heart disease. This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a disease of theheart and blood vessels. Suitable diagnostic tests and dose adjustments are advised toensure the safe and effective use of this medicine in such cases.Form-specific side effects. The side effects caused might vary depending on the form androute of administration of this medicine. Patients should be educated about the proper useand route specific side effects before starting the therapy with this medicine.Deformation of the penis. Alprostadil should be used with caution in patients having aphysical deformity of the penis, which may be due to Angulation, Cavernosal Fibrosis, orPeyronie disease. The risk of permanent loss of sexual potency is high in such cases.Appropriate use of contraception. It is recommended to use a barrier method ofcontraception (condoms) while having intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy or whilehaving intercourse with a woman who may be pregnant.Drowsiness. Alprostadil may cause drowsiness, fainting, and a sudden fall in bloodpressure in some patients. You should refrain from driving or operating heavy machineryafter taking this medicine at least in the initial stages of treatment with this medicine.Injection site bleeding and irritation. Use of this medicine may cause a small amount ofbleeding at the injections, increasing the risk of blood-borne infections. Inform the doctorif your partner has any infections that can be transmitted through blood (HIV, Hepatitis B,Hepatitis C, etc.).Use in women. This medicine is not recommended for use in women.
