It is with great pleasure that I am able to tell you that Derby High School has been shortlisted for an award in the Student Careers Programme category this year, with the final results being announced in October. This award is for the school which best helps the students with on-going advice and support on choosing a career and assists them with finding suitable work experience, including internships, and in preparing for future employment. Read more Meet Mr Harper – Head of Primary at Derby High School In September Mr Jeremy Harper will be joining Derby High School as Head of Primary. Many pupils and staff will have already met Mr Harper. He has been busy preparing to join our school over the last two terms. Disruptions to everyday life have been far reaching. Our pupils and teachers have adapted incredibly well to the significant changes in how we learn and complete work. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our pupils dealing with these challenges with such positive and creative responses. It is important though to remember that not every day will be equally productive. Everyone continues to work so hard to ensure that all our students continue to receive high quality teaching and engagement as well as access to super-curricular opportunities which are more important than ever at the moment. The media is not helping our students, parents and staff. Talk of missed work, a lost term and the need for summer catch-up really is not true at Derby High. Our students are completing excellent work showing a real understanding of the topics covered during this period and receiving high quality feedback weekly from their teachers. I have taken the opportunity to listen, reflect, and learn from the experiences and views of black and ethnic minority voices from both sides of the Atlantic. Over the coming weeks we will use a number of channels to amplify voices that have helped our understanding, by giving us a window into experiences that differ from our own.
