Reynolds decision to close schools for the year. I understand and agree with prioritizing safety, and realize it was a difficult decision for her. We will be sending out more detailed information after our Board meeting this upcoming Monday. In the short term, we will continue with our current plan for now. Thank you for your patience as we finalize our detailed plan.Take care and be safe.Erik Anderson4/7/2020 UpdateCMCSD Parents/Guardians and Students -Pleasesee this video regarding educational servicesand activities at CMCSD.Take care and be safe.Erik Anderson4/2/2020 UpdateCMCSD Parents/Guardians and Students -Pleasesee this documentregarding the extended closure of CMCSD.Take care and be safe.Erik AndersonIn order to limit the spread of COVID-19, as of March 31, 2020 all outdoor school facilities are closed to public use, including the elementary playground and Jr/Sr HS stadium. We will continue to provide meals at the three school sites. Be well and stay safe Tigerhawks!3/27/2020 UpdateCMCSD Parents/Guardians and Students -Pleasesee this documentfor further information on some Learning Resources provided by CMCSD.Take care and be safe.Erik Anderson3/18/2020 INFORMATION UPDATECMCSD Staff, Students, and Parents –Thank you for your patience as we navigate this stressful, uncertain time for everyone.Gov. Reynolds reiterated earlier this evening the recommendation that all Iowa schools close for four weeks and possibly re-open April 13. Colfax-Mingo Schools will follow the recommendation of the Governor and close all schools through April 12. Legislation just signed this evening will waive the requirement for schools to make-up the days missed because of this pandemic. During this closure:CMCSD buildings will be closedall activities and practices canceledentry by non-essential personnel into all facilities will be permitted only with specific approval from the Superintendent.CMCSD has applied to be able to offer lunches for all students hopefully starting Monday, March 23. The specific process will be shared later this week, once we receive approval. In general, the lunches will be a grab-and-go style lunch and students will not be staying in the building. There are still many questions left to answer. Our Board of Directors, under the advisement of our local, state, and federal governments, will provide additional direction when the information is available. Our Board will meet as necessary to implement new, unique strategies to support our students, staff, and community as we are able. Decisions will be made with as much forward planning as possible. As an example, sharing a decision about student celebration days (step-up, graduation, prom, etc.) would not be prudent at this time. We will share when we can be sure decisions are made with the most accurate information possible. Please know, the most recent CDC guidance is that all gatherings of 50 or more people be canceled for the next eight weeks. Additionally, recent federal recommendations are to not gather in groups of more than 10 people for the next 15 days. When we can make a fair, timely decision on these recommendations for our schools beyond what we already have, we will let you know as soon as possible. This time away from school will be new and stressful for everyone. Considerations on how to use this time:Spend time with family.Be creative with how to spend time with the elderly, who are most likely sheltered during this time.Educationally, the best things students can do is read and write every day. Balance time reading books with time gaming or on-line. Writing options could include:summaries of what they have readletters to family members that are awayletters to our service men and women around the worldjournaling to themselves to read at a later date. Please know that while this is going to be a difficult time for everyone, we are still here for each other. If you need something, please ask someone you trust. If you know someone is in need of support, be the support or help them find it. Our students, families, and community will respond how we respond. Let’s have our communities of Colfax, Mingo, Ira, and Valeria come together and support each other through this crisis. It will take all of us to change the trajectory of this virus. Please do your part to help the spreading of this virus come to an end.Follow federal guidance, and avoid gatherings of 10 or more people for the next 15 days.Cover your mouth with your upper arm or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.Avoid touching your face with your hands.Avoid close contact with others who are sick.Avoid gatherings of 50 or more people.Utilize social distancing - a term that refers to a conscious effort to reduce close contact between peopleHere are some state and federal resources to assist you in your decision-making.Iowa Department of Public Health ResourcesWe will continue to work through this together. Stay vigilant and focused on your family needs. We will be in contact again when we know more specifics to share. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.Take care and be safe.Erik AndersonLink to: IOWA SCHOOL PERFORMANCE PROFILE INFORMATIONBOND REFERENDUM Thank you to colfax-mingo voters!!bond issue passed unofficially by 77% on November 5th election. Our Board agreed with this sentiment and thus moved forward with the Bond Issue this past November. Since the vote, CMCSD has been diligently working on the design plans for the new addition to the Junior/Senior High as well as the stadium. At a recent design meeting, we were speaking once again about the impressive outcome of our Bond Issue vote. Attendees were sharing how special it is to have a 77% approval rating, which is a clear message of support from our community members. So again, thank you!In our professional development recently, we have been focusing on improving our instruction around the area of depth of knowledge (DOK). DOK is an important area of focus for our staff to explore. We are learning about how we state a learning expectation is important to support students thinking deeper and more explicitly about their standards. Further, our staff has been experiencing the importance of sharing their lesson plans with colleagues for some peer feedback of their work. This sort of work is not easy and requires an intense focus on the explicit steps teachers take within a lesson. I am proud of our teachers that they have embraced a growth mindset and opened themselves up to their colleagues for feedback. I am so thankful for our teachers and their dedication to our students!I welcome you to take the opportunity to share with our Colfax-Mingo staff your appreciation of their enthusiasm for and commitment to our students. You can send them an email, a letter, tell them in person, give them a call, or send a note through your student to bring to school. These messages mean the world to our staff as they tirelessly work for our students’ growth and improvement. Thank you for finding a way to thank your child’s educators!Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.Remember, this is Tigerhawk country...
