This is my first winter as an empty-nester, and that gives lots of time for reflections about life. Essentially, I am now officially retired as a mother. It s a career I chose wholeheartedly and was committed to for more than 40 years. Emotions came like waves, hoping that she would pull through the medical crisis, praying she would show signs of improvement, and then a kind of numb disbelief when suddenly word came that her body was shutting down and this was goodbye. To see her children and grandchildren around [ ] In 2014 I was treating for arthritis and fibromyalgia, recognizing that my energy and ability to walk were declining rapidly. I had to literally plan my trips across the house to the bathroom so I could carry things that needed to be put away along the path. I was afraid I’d be wheelchair-bound by the [ ] In 1987 we moved here to the Blue Ridge with 5 kids, one of them just a few weeks of age. We loaded two 24-foot U-hauls with all we could pack up and moved. It was so stressful that I actually prayed someone would steal one of the trucks while we slept overnight so we [ ] After three years of actively treating lyme/babesia/bartonella with natural remedies and cold laser and PEMF therapy, I am about 75% back to being myself again. I still struggle with walking and muscle rigidity and spasms (think MS symptoms) but my mind is coming back! I am feeling creative and not having so much trouble finding [ ] Even with a great spam filter on our server removing 90% of the spam that comes through, every day there are new ones that find their way through the system. Many are annoying, but some are downright funny. Yesterday I got this one. Clearly, most of those people are suffering a form of mental illness. No rational person would choose to live in a house piled with stuff so high they can only get through a path in [ ] I ve been thinking a lot about my online activities since the news story broke about the big social media players deciding to restrict whatever they consider to be hate speech. This whole politically correct thing is on the verge of fulfilling George Orwell s 1984 novel. After a lifetime of using words to express my thoughts and emotions, it seems strange to struggle for words. But for the last six months or so, that s been the case. Writer s block? No. Just no motivation to write. I don t know if it s the battle with lyme disease robbing me of expressiveness, or just [ ] Every day I come across articles about the dangers hidden in our everyday foods. There are pesticides, GMO, artificial sweeteners, toxic chemicals, contamination. I definitely take an interest in this topic. Why? Because I like being alive and don t want to shorten my life unnecessarily by ingesting toxic substances.
