The text message read: “Nagdaog ka sa raffle! Call me for details kun paano nyo ini makuha. From Iloilo Public Information and Community Affairs Officer Mr. Nereo Lujan.” Only 1,500 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Manila will be allowed to return home to Iloilo every week. Under the proposal, the 1,500 passengers will be equally divided among the three airlines — Air Asia, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines. “Once we open, passengers can buy their tickets and go to the airports like a regular flight. The Iloilo provincial government is launching a province-wide tree planting convergence drive with adherence to social distancing protocols. “Tanum Iloilo: Tree Planting with Social Distancing” will have its symbolic launching on June 25, 2020 in celebration of Arbor Day.The massive tree planting program aims to plant 1.5 million trees a day, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. “We want to show that we can proceed with life even with social distancing. That the programs that we have been implementing, we will continue to implement,” Defensor said. With the firm stand of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), through the recommendation of Land Transportation Office (LTO), to prohibit backriders on motorcycles during this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. thought of a design that could be used to ensure that there will be no physical contact between the driver and the backrider. He submitted his proposal to LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante through LTO regional director Eric Lenard Tabaldo late afternoon on June 5, 2020. The Iloilo provincial government is crafting its rehabilitation and recovery strategy to address the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. National Task Force COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. lauded the unity of Western Visayas in the fight against the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Iloilo provincial government is preparing for the arrival of more Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and stranded Ilonggos (LSIs) from Metro Manila and other parts of the country. Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. met with the provincial government’s disaster cluster on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, to discuss the things to be done with the impending arrival of more OFWs and LSIs as ordered by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. He directed Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin to look for hotels or resorts in the province that could be used as quarantine facilities for the returning Ilonggos.
