Credit: Michael DeMocker - New Orleans Saints'When we go out and practice we've got to be locked in. We won't be able to bring this into that space' By John DeShazier | NewOrleansSaints.,com It's not business as usual for the New Orleans Saints. Not when a large chunk of the business – executives, coaches, players, support personnel and their respective families – evacuated to Dallas ahead of Hurricane Ida's landfall and destruction. Not when timeout was called, and they watched destruction in and around the city, to people and property and hopes. But being on the practice field Monday, for the first of at least three practices at AT T Stadium, presented the first slice of routine for players and coaches since last Friday, when the team finished its preparations for its final preseason game, a Saturday matchup against Arizona which eventually was canceled due to the hurricane threat. I think to some degree, going out and being able to practice today is going to be good for everyone, Coach Sean Payton said. From afar, there's only so much you can do. We get updated daily, and then we'll try to communicate that to our players. ...Full Story - NewOrleansSaints.,com Saints owner makes initial $1 million donation toward Gulf Coast Renewal Fund As South Louisiana and the Gulf Coast begin to assess the significant damage inflicted by Hurricane Ida, please know our prayers are with all of those who have suffered from the impacts of this historical storm. We have great faith in the resilience and strength of our community and look forward to doing everything in our power to help lead in the recovery. Most important, we as an organization want to do everything within our power to assist those who have been impacted by the storm and have activated our Gulf Coast Renewal Fund with Owner Gayle Benson making an initial donation of $1 million to support our community throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. Those wishing to donate can do so by going to NewOrleansSaints.com/hurricaneida. We will continue to be in close communication with governmental and community leaders to determine where aid and assistance can most effectively be directed. More details on the fund and other initiatives will be provided in the coming days.We know there is much work to be done to restore power and other infrastructure. We have been in touch with government leaders at every level to offer any assistance we can, including the use of any of our facilities - all of which have sustained only superficial damage. FEMA has accepted that offer and will be using portions of our Ochsner Sports Performance Center to stage their assistance efforts.Full Statement - NewOrleansSaints.com Photo credit Jeff Zelevansky/Getty ImagesMike Triplett | ESPN Staff Writer The New Orleans Saints got back to work Monday at their temporary home in Dallas after Hurricane Ida devastated southern Louisiana on Sunday.Saints coach Sean Payton said he was unaware of any significant damage to the team's practice facility in Metairie, Louisiana. But he expects the team to practice away from home next week because of widespread power outages and other damage throughout the region. In a statement released Monday in which Saints owner Gayle Benson announced she was making an initial donation of $1 million to support those impacted by the storm in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, the team said the Caesars Superdome received only minor damage and will be prepared to host games as soon as the city's infrastructure will allow. The Saints are scheduled to host the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 12 in their Week 1 home opener. It's too early to determine if we can play the game or not, but from an infrastructure standpoint, we can play a football game, Doug Thornton, the vice president of stadiums for ASM Global, which manages the stadium for the state, told NOLA.com. We've got two weeks to work with, and we'll have options with the staff. As long as we can get power and water pressure, we'll play a football game [Sept. 12]. We're going to find a way. Full Story - ESPN DALLAS — The New Orleans Saints have begun trimming their roster from 80 to 53 players ahead of Tuesday's deadline. With 80 players on the roster as of Monday afternoon, the Saints must let go of 27 players before the clock strikes 3 p.m. on Tuesday.A handful of players waived or released could return to the team as a practice squad member. NFL teams can fill out their 16-player player practice squad beginning Wednesday at noon.Below is the list of players the Saints have either waived or released so far:This story is developing. Please check back for updates. Continue reading... The New Orleans Saints made their roster cuts from 90 players to 85 and 85 to 80 during the last two weeks, and now it’s unfortunately time to thin out the group even further. These decisions must be made without the benefits of a full slate of preseason games and under a late-summer evacuation to Dallas in the face of Hurricane Ida, to say nothing of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. It isn’t an easy process for anyone.Still, Saints Wire will be tracking all of the latest roster moves here as the team works to get down to 53 players before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CT NFL deadline. Keep... Continue reading... The New Orleans Saints aren’t really in a position to be picky about available wide receivers. With Michael Thomas and Tre’Quan Smith both missing extensive time this summer with injuries and a two-game suspension hanging over Deonte Harris’ head, it’s fallen to second-year pro Marquez Callaway to be the tip of the spear for the unit. Things have gotten so rough that Chris Hogan hung up his lacrosse gear and immediately started outplaying his competition in Saints training camp. Jameis Winston could use a better supporting cast. That means it’s noteworthy when Breshad Perriman became... Continue reading... Their practices are in Dallas. But their thoughts are back in New Orleans, a city now in the first steps of recovery after Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc on it Sunday. For Saints' players, it presents the always tough challenge of balancing playing a game with the real life issues of what's going on back home. While the team has evacuated to Texas, they know what the people left behind in New Orleans and surrounding areas are dealing with.Nobody in the city has power. Some in surrounding areas are dealing with flooding. And others are trying to pick up the pieces from structural damage... Continue reading... It’s going to take a team effort to recover from the impact of Hurricane Ida, so it’s good to see New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson taking a first step towards helping her city rebuild. Benson opened the Gulf Coast Renewal Fund with a $1 million donation on Monday, Aug. 30, all earmarked for the upcoming recovery. Anyone interested in donating can do so at NewOrleansSaints.com/hurricaneida.Before Ida made landfall in coastal Louisiana, Benson commissioned two commercial flights to transport Saints players, coaches, and many of their family members to safety in Dallas. She herself... Continue reading... Jerry Jones may be the face of the Dallas Cowboys, but his son Stephen Jones is a big-time decision-maker as Cowboys executive vice president. And when the New Orleans Saints came calling for help, they answered the call by welcoming the Saints to practice at AT T Stadium for three days upon evacuating from Hurricane Ida before it struck the Louisiana coast. The younger Jones joined “K C Masterpiece” on KRLD-FM 105.3 “The Fan” to preview the 2021 season and discuss the Cowboys’ involvement with welcoming the displaced Saints to AT T Stadium. Here’s what he said:The Saints explored... Continue reading... The New Orleans Saints have been here before.Sadly, they are experienced crisis managers, unfortunate experts at dealing with life-altering storms like Hurricane Ida.Several members of the organization, including general manager Mickey Loomis, oversaw the evacuation and season-long relocation of the entire football operation to San Antonio for Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Saints also temporarily relocated to San Antonio, Indianapolis and Cincinnati ahead of tropical storm threats in 2004, 2008 and 2012.Being forced to evacuate for Hurricane Ida and relocate to Dallas might derail... Continue reading... New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson is offering support both financially and infrastructurally as southeastern Louisiana recovers from Hurricane Ida. Benson, 74, is donating $1 million that will go toward Hurricane Ida relief, the teams announced Monday afternoon. That money will support communities in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast. More details on the fund and other Saints-sponsored initiatives will be announced in the coming days.Additionally, Benson has offered up the Saints and Pelicans' practice facilities for FEMA to use as the agency stages assistance... Continue reading... Jameis Winston earned the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback job, and it wasn’t too hard to see why. Winston led the conference in passer rating, posting a 124.8 (Denver Broncos backup Drew Lock paced the AFC with a 138.7). And that helped fuel the Saints to lead the NFC in total offense (367.5 yards) and passing yards per game (289).All told, Winston completed 16 of 22 combined passes through two games, gaining 219 yards through the air while scoring three touchdowns against one interception. That’s a cumulated completion percentage of 72.7% and 9.9 yards per pass attempt. Not too... Continue reading... We’re a day away from the New Orleans Saints whittling their depth chart down from 80 players to just 53, but as many as 16 of those roster cuts could return to the practice squad should they clear waivers. And up to six of those players eligible for the practice squad may have unlimited NFL experience, unlike in the past. We took one last shot at predicting the 53-man roster here, so here is a follow-up in guessing at who could be a good fit on the practice squad. Continue reading... New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton Media Conference Call Monday, August 30, 2021What is your message to New Orleans and the state of Louisiana today? “Well, obviously, it’s prayers, it’s safety, it’s all the things that that we want for our neighbors, our residents. The first is you’re paying attention closely to the state and local authorities, seeing a lot of the news, seen a lot of reports from there the day after now, and obviously, there’s a lot more light on the city. Literally, where we can, those people that are there to help can begin to assess what kind of condition... Continue reading...
