The wedding took place June 25^th, 2011, and a good time was had by all. Thanks to all our friends and family for making it a really wonderful day that seemingly went off without a hitch. Now, the wedding might be over but the marriage continues. Check out the photos from the wedding

The Couple

Alex is a twenty-four year old web-and-graphic designer. He was born in Alexandria, VA and moved to Big Rapids, MI at the age of four and lived there for fourteen years. He spent two years at Michigan State University and three at the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. He currently works for the University of Michigan as a web designer.

He's an easy-going individual with a variety of interests including photography, sculpture, programming, flying, travel, and generally getting away from the computer to do something tangible. He appreciates a good movie, solving problems, a cold beer, and the cooking of his fiance.

Shrotriyee is a twenty-four year old scientist. She is currently working in the life sciences, but has a strong affinity for technology and hopes to combine her interests one day. She was born in India and moved to the States when she was four years old. She grew up in the Metro Detroit area and attended Michigan State University where she studied Human Biology, and also happened to meet Alex.

Shrotriyee enjoys cooking, traveling, reading and spending time with her 110lb golden retriever named Bogart. She is only partially bilingual, as she can speak Bengali, but with an American accent.

Shrotriyee doesn't have a favorite color, because she likes a lot of them.

The Story

A story as old as time. Boy meets girl. Girl falls for boy. Love. Engagement. Marriage.

Their story begins in East Lansing, Michigan where they both lived in the same dormitory on the Michigan State University campus albeit on separate floors. Shrotriyee was an old acquaintance with one of Alex's roommates, and one day stopped by to say "hello." That "hello" was just the beginning.

That first year of college they spent a considerable amount of time together, watching movies in the dorm with Alex's roommates, having lunch together between classes, and doing general college student things. The second year was much like the first, although they didn't spend as much time together as they both made new friends and branched out. Towards the end of the second year they reconnected as Alex was gearing up to transfer to the University of Michigan. They spent more time together as the semester came to a close. It was then they decided to begin a relationship and date officially.

Over the next few years they did the long-distance (though not too long) relationship thing. Alex would drive to East Lansing to visit Shrotriyee when he could, and Shrotriyee would make trips to Ann Arbor to visit Alex when she could manage. And things went on like this for over three years.

Eventually, Alex and Shro took a vacation together to Yosemite National Park. After a day of hiking Alex proposed in the middle of Yosemite Valley as the moon set behind the rim of the valley. The rest, is history.

Wedding Party

Helen is a 1st generation Greek-Cypriot American, born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI. She is currently working towards her BS in Informatics Social Computing, with a minor in Modern Greek Studies. Helen is creative, energetic and is imaginative. She passionate about good food, designing and making jewelry, pups, and being happy. Helen and Shro bumped into one another while walking their dogs one day and have become very close since.

Katie is Alex's favorite and only sister and has known Alex for 22 years and Shro for 3 or so. She first figured out that Shro was a special person in Alex's life when she stumbled upon a picture of them together on Facebook, and then promptly showed her mother. Katie is a alumna of Central Michigan University, where she studied science and history. Most recently she has been accepted to Marshall University where she hopes to get her Masters in Forensic Science.

Anushka is Shrotriyee's younger sister. She is currently in the eighth grade at Novi Middle School. Her favorite class is lunch. She likes reading all manner of books. Anushka's favorite word is hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia (the fear of long words).

Paul met Alex after relocating to Big Rapids, MI in the 6th grade, and since then they’ve been best of buds! After graduating High School with Alex, their paths crossed again after Alex transferred to The University of Michigan where they were resumed their bro-man-ship as roommates. Upon graduation from college, Paul commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force where, shortly after commissioning, was also married to his wife Nikole. They now happily live out their lives wherever the Air Force takes them.

Tim grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan and has been a classmate of Alex since elementary school. They spent two years together as roommates during college in Ann Arbor, where Tim was introduced to Shro, mastered Guitar Hero, tangled with Bo, and flooded Alex's room. Tim recently graduated from the University of Michigan where he studied structural engineering.

Tim is Alex's cousin, born and raised in Mt. Pleasant Michigan. He is currently enrolled at Central Michigan University, and is employed by them as a lifeguard. Tim is planning on transferring to Michigan State University next year and is still deciding on his major.

Location

The wedding was be held at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel. The hotel is located just off I-275, and easily reachable from all directions located in and around the Detroit Metro area. The hotel lies just over 20 miles - or just under 30 minutes - from the Detroit Metro Airport.
