Spit for ScienceTMis a university-wide project at VCU that creates unique, cross-disciplinary opportunities for studentsto work with leading researchers in emotional health and substance use.We know that 1 in 4 people over the age of 18 are affected by substance use or mental health problems. The scientific focus of the project is to understand why some people are more likely than others to develop problems associated with substance use and emotional healthby examining how individual genetic predispositions come together with environmental factors to contribute to these outcomes. We then use the findings from the project to feed back into coursework, programming and policy at VCU to benefit our VCU students and community.VCU Juniors who previously participated in Spit for Science: We recognize that it has been an incredibly challenging semester for students and have invited you to participate in a follow-up survey about your experiences with the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.
