Human Tissue for Research IIAM provides qualified researchers with tissues recovered from organ donors for transplantation whose other organs are not transplantable. Each year, IIAM hosts 2 Recovery Workshops providing educational training to our OPO recovery partners about organ recoveries for research. We support families of babies with terminal diagnoses in contributing to medical advancement through organ donation. IIAM provides non-transplantable, human organs and tissues authorized for medical research, education and development. We work with organ procurement organizations, tissue banks and donor families in the U.S. to provide these biomaterials to qualified medical and scientific professionals around the world. IIAM brings together donor families, medical research facilities and medical schools. We work with prominent research programs and provide a comforting option for donors and families. Through an extensive national network of 58 organ procurement organizations, IIAM receives over 15,000 referrals of healthy and diseased, human organs and tissues for research annually. With dedication to education and appreciation for the extraordinary efforts by our recovery partners, IIAM provides bi-annual surgical training workshops for affiliated procurement staff. IIAM’s Neonatal Donor Program enables families of neonatal babies with fatal fetal diagnoses to donate to medical research and education. We partner with you in creating a legacy for your baby. Since its inception, IIAM’s Neonatal Donor Program has helped families make donations to researchers, who are gaining insights into how organs and cells develop in ways that were once unthinkable. The Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) brings together experts from around the world to address fundamental questions relating to beta cell development and regeneration, viral infection, autoimmunity, genetics, and more. At the University of Rochester Medical Center, the NIH-funded Lung Molecular Atlas Program (LungMAP) is seeking ways to trigger lung cell re-growth to ultimately help the lungs develop in premature babies, as well as treat adults suffering from COPD. ORGAN TISSUE RESEARCH IIAM s flexibility and dedication has allowed us to work on projects investigating the safety and efficacy of over 300 potential new drugs. We have used the human lung material received from IIAM to aid our drug discovery research by studying the biological role and disease relevance of proteins that may be of therapeutic relevance in lung disease.
