On June 8th, we enjoyed the opportunity to share Rekrei’s developments at the annual TEDx event in Hamburg, Germany. It was a pleasure to share the collaborative effort of our many volunteers and partners. Thanks to the Economist Media Lab, we also had 3D printed objects for the audience to witness up close following the talk.We’d like to thank the organizers for the invitation and the audience who showed so much enthusiasm towards collaborative efforts for preserving the memory of lost heritage.You can experience the museum in virtual relaity usingGoogle Cardboard VRor other similar low-cost viewers.Download the RecoVR application for Android and Apple devices below.In 2015, we had the pleasure of collaborating with the Economist Media Lab to create the first virtual reconstruction of the Mosul Cultural Museum, the destruction of which was the catalyst for Rekrei. The creation of the virtual museum represents an important step for the project in that we have seen the collective reconstructions now brought forward for retelling through virtual reality.You can read more about the creation of the museum on the Economists blog.http://www.economist.com/blogs/prospero/2016/05/virtual-realityThanks to the combination of crowdsourcing and planned acquisition, we have a new reconstructed model from before and after an ancient monument collapsed. Also the first reconstruction from the Americas, this carved Maya stela and it's surrounding context at the archaeological site of La Milpa in Belize have been visualised with an annotative tour (bottom-right) thanks to features in the the Sketchfab viewer.Go ahead and have a look for yourself on your computer, mobile or Google Cardboard!Rekrei isn't just about heritage in the Middle East, but focuses on heritage around the world. Recently, our partners atnFrameshave been working on some reconstructing the entire city of Kathmandu, with particular emphasis on the heritage in the center of the city.
