Individuals with strong health literacy skills are better able to take charge of their health and the health of their families. Adult education programs are increasingly incorporating health information into their curricula.World Education trains adult and health educators on how best to integrate health topics into basic skills instruction. We also design, implement, and evaluate program models that integrate health and adult education. To help people better understand health information, World Education creates plain language, easy-to-read health education materials and websites for both health care providers and adult educators to use as part of instruction. We also offer training for health care providers on how to develop easy-to-read materials and forms.Recognizing the increasing number of people entering the health care field, World Education develops and provides online courses for entry-level health care employees and adult education students to prepare for college programs leading to nursing and other allied health professions. The Words2Learn Mobile Learning Project uses mobile apps with a state-of-the-art mobile learning management system to accelerate adults learning of academic and health career related vocabulary and concepts. Health Care Learning Network™ (HCLN) prepares entry-level health care workers for college programs in nursing or allied health. Managing Stress to Improve Learning trains adult educators on how to mitigate the effects of stress and trauma on learning using strategies from expressive art therapy. Lessons learned from working with three local workforce investment boards to create online courses for a project called the Health Care Learning Network. The stress of juggling work and family, compounded with anxieties about math and reading, can be crippling for even the most motivated adult learner.
