The State Games of America is a biennial Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold, silver, bronze) from across the nation. There are currently 30 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The State Games of America is staying up-to-date with local, state, and federal recommendations for hosting events and gatherings. Below are some basic guidelines for our events. If there are specific guidelines for your sport other than what’s listed below, they will be posted to their sport webpage.

CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or social distance in any setting except where required by federal, state, or local rules and regulations.

Indoor Events – Unvaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear masks at all times, except when competing.

Outdoor Events – Unvaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear masks when not participating and unable to social distance.

In the unlikely event that the sport that you signed up for is cancelled and cannot be rescheduled due to COVID-19, your sports registration fee and any admissions fees will be refunded or you can elect to have a credit for a future event. The nominal 5% credit card processing fee cannot be refunded as those expenses are incurred through the credit card companies and our registration vendor.

We are excited to announce San Diego as the next host for the State Games of America in 2024! The California State Games and Sports San Diego are thrilled to welcome all of the State Games athletes from across the country to compete in sunny California!

Born with a rare condition called amniotic band syndrome, Jessica Heims started life with a much shorter right leg and a non-functional right foot. For the first year of her life, her doctors and parents tried to decide the best course of action for her: treat the foot or amputate? At about one year old, Jessica’s parents made the difficult decision to have their daughter’s foot amputated; however, this decision has helped Jessica to thrive. Her story is that of an Iowa-native success.

If you have been to the Iowa Games or the Iowa Senior Games the last several years, chances are you have seen or met Ron Peterson [Waukee, IA]. Ron competes in basketball shooting and track and field (shotput, discus, 100-meter dash) in the Iowa Games. In the Senior Games, he competes in up to 25 sports.
