Newburyport Documentary Film Festival Stay tuned here to learn about more documentaries being offered throughout the year. Catch some of our video interviews with some of today’s best doc filmmakers below.
Now in our 18th year, the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival is happy to announce that we plan to be back in person for our full festival lineup. Over the weekend of September 16-18, we'll offer a full slate of provocative, poignant, and fun documentaries at our two partner venues, the Firehouse Center for the Arts and the Screening Room. We're planning Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, panel discussions, receptions, after-parties, this year's YES (Young Emerging Filmmaker Showcase) Award, and much more. Can't make it in person, or can't make every film you'd like to see? We will make every title available to stream in our virtual cinema throughout the week following the festival (Sept. 19-25). Keep an eye on this space as we prepare to announce the full lineup and schedule, details on our Preview Party, and much more!
Up next in THE WATCH CLUB: There will be no live Q&A this month as we get ready to announce the complete schedule for our 18th annual festival. Save the dates – September 16-18! In the meantime, there’s always room for another documentary or three: In THE LAST MOVIE STARS , Ethan Hawke leads us through a leisurely look (six episodes!) at the lives and work of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. In a recent interview, the actor explained his motivation for making the series: It’s a meditation on what “a meaningful, substantive life in the performing arts [would] look like… To have family, to have love, to be a part of your community, to be an ethical citizen, and to be dedicated to your craft, it is possible.” Stream THE LAST MOVIE STARS on HBO Max The Watch Club Archive Check out our Filmmaker Interviews here.Riveted: The History of Jeans Program Director James Sullivan wrote his first book on the subject of blue jeans in 2006.
