Description:

The incumbent candidates for Homer City Council appeared on The Coffee Table, Wednesday morning on KBBI.    KBBI and Bluejaye Productions proudly present Knife Skills, an original piece written by Lindsey Schneider and produced with local talent now available for on demand listening. Knife Skills is the story of four kitchen workers at the edge of the world. A charming executive chef, an ambitious sous chef, a hardened line cook, and an innocent dishwasher form a strong friendship working long hours at a rural deluxe wilderness lodge in Lake Clark National Park, Alaska. On this episode of Sound Collections, you'll hear from Diane Selanoff, who has been gathering traditional foods with her family for almost as long as she can remember. Originally from Port Graham, Diane now lives in Valdez, where she gathers and collects all sorts of things from the beaches and forests surrounding her home. Click on the link to hear a sampling of Diane’s stories and vast knowledge of the local edible ecology.  For the latest episode of Homer Grown, hosted by Desiree Hagen: We talk with Dave Schroer and Dave Erickson about apple cultivation and orchard maintanance. Kyra Wagner addresses cold and hot compost for our 'Tech Minute'. And, Nicole Arevalo has our weekly roundup of current events and opportunites in local Ag. If you look on the internet, you’re going to find plenty of contests for cute pets, with submissions from all over the world. Well one of those contests has got a local cat named Benji rising through the ranks of the current vote.    Liz Taylor of Anchor Point is Benji’s human. She tells of a long road from a crowded home to internet glamor for her three-year old kitty. A third store on the South Peninsula catering to cannabis consumers is holding a grand opening on Saturday in Old Town Homer. The Cosmic Cannabis Company has been open for a few days and the three people named ‘Chris’ who own the store will be celebrating with the public all day tomorrow.    Chris Long is one of the owners. On this morning's COVID-19 Brief, panelists:Pegge Erkenef, Spokesperson for Kenai Peninsula Borough School District,Jenny Carroll from the City of Homer,Nurse Lorne Carroll from the Homer Public Health Center and AK State DHSS, and Derotha Ferraro from South Peninsula Hospital, answer questions from the listeners and talk about COVID immunity, CARES Act funding and safety protocols in the school system.NOTE: Residents of a large section of the Western Kenai Peninsula will have Ballot Measure 1 before them during next month’s municipal election. If approved, it would create a new emergency services area to encompass Anchor Point, Ninilchik and all points in between.    The proposition was the topic on Wednesday morning’s Coffee Table with Kathleen Gustafson on KBBI.    The push to create a combined “Western Emergency Service Area” came when the Ninilchik Volunteer Fire Department, a private non-profit organization, experienced staffing and volunteer issues. Borough Ballot Measure One is the topic on this week's Coffee Table.Voters in the October 6 Municipal Election will decide whether or not to expand of the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area to include the Ninilchik area, creating the Western Emergency Services Area. Last night, for the second year in a row, a Homer man gave the invocation for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting. Last year it was before a packed Homer City Council chambers, but due to social distancing rules, this year the invocation was given over Zoom. Nevertheless, Barrett Fletcher wore his church’s traditional headdress to deliver the prayer, a colander.    “I am Barrett Fletcher, the founding pastor of the First Lower Peninsula Congregation of Pastafarians, and I’ve been asked to do the invocation.
