The emergence of Consolidators Association of India (CAI) is a historic development and a perfect example of excellence in adversity.

CAI was formed in year 2003 when logistics industry was going through a challenging patch of port congestion and was facing infrastructure issues of inadequate Container Freight Station Space, Lack of proper transport and container handling equipments at port of Nhava Sheva.

In this fast changing world of globalization & merging international markets, industry associations play a very vital role in the growth and development of business. In view of this, Consolidators Association of India (CAI) came into existence to protect and promote the interest of consolidators at International level so that they could continue to benefit the exim trade by providing competitive transaction cost for export and import of LCL cargoes with top notch quality service.

ACHIEVEMENTS

International Transshipments HUB: April 25, 2007, was a day of revolution in the Indian Maritime history with the inauguration of LCL transshipment HUB at CWC CFS dronagiri, this concept was pursued by CAI& a dream of global LCL consolidation HUB in India translated into reality.CAI successfully played a key role in streamlining of operations at Container Freight Stations and de-congestion in the vicinity of Nhava Sheva port during the crises of congestion.Major impediments hampering the working of the consolidators were taken up with the highest authorities and were resolved with co-operation of Government bodies and Trade associations.CAI conducted a training programme on shipping Imports & Exports documentation for benefits of its members.LCL Import cargo movement was initiated Ex-Nhava Sheva to Mumbai Old Port.Standardization was brought about in the ancillary charges.Infrastructure development issues were addressed to facilitate smooth consolidation of cargoes.

Port to Port Transfer of LCL Export thereby reducing transaction cost and effectively using the status of international transshipment HUB extended to major ports in India.

QAULITY INITIATIVES

CAI realizes that LCL logistics is of prime importance for the growth of economy and to equate Indian LCL NVOCC industry to the global standards it is imperative that the overall quality of human assets is upgraded to TQP (Total Quality People).

Therefore in view of this the following training programmes are being designed by CAI :

· Hazmat (Haz Material Training Programme)

· Training on Importers Security Filing (formally called 10+2) & other International regulations in LCL Consolidation including Fumigation (WPM), Documentation requirements etc.

· Taxation: Service Tax, FBT, TDS, & other Statutory Compliances.

· Claims Handling, Insurance Cover & Documentation.

· An audio-visual programme on scientific operational handling i.e. Stuffing & Transport of containers etc.

· Regulations: Awareness programme on regulations and its impact on consolidation industry (CCI, STP, MMTG Act, etc.)
