Stronger Communities, Together Since 1919 we’ve been supporting New York’s settlement houses, helping them create vibrant neighborhoods, and giving a voice to New Yorkers. About UNH Get Involved United Neighborhood Houses (UNH) is a policy and social change organization representing 44 neighborhood settlement houses that serve 765,000 New Yorkers from all walks of life. Now in our 100th year, UNH is stewarding a new era for New York’s settlement house movement. We mobilize our members and their communities to advocate for good public policies locally and statewide and we promote strong organizations and practices that keep neighborhoods resilient and thriving for all New Yorkers. Who We Are UNH promotes and strengthens the neighborhood-based, multi-service approach to improving the lives of New Yorkers Our History UNH was founded in 1919 to unify the settlement houses' collective efforts to achieve social reform What we do UNH leads advocacy and partners with our members on a broad range of issues including civic and community engagement, neighborhood affordability, healthy aging, early childhood education, adult literacy, and youth development. We also provide customized professional development and peer learning to build the skills and leadership capabilities of settlementhouse staff at all levels.
