We provide support and information to anybody affected by OCD, work to raise awareness of the disorder amongst the public and front-line healthcare workers, and strive to secure a better deal for people with OCD. Formed by a group of volunteers and leading professionals in 1994, the Charity has thevolunteers, trustees and staffto turn its vision into reality. It is debilitating and paralysing. People with OCD experience intensely negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts, combined with a chronic feeling of doubt or danger (obsessions). In order to quell the thought or quieten the anxiety, they will often repeat an action, again and again (compulsions).One of the greatest challenges that people with OCD face is the need to fight both the all pervasive stigma of mental health disorders and the widely held belief that OCD is a mild or even "quirky" problem that is nothing more than hand washing. OCD Action would not be able to carry out its life-changing work without the time and money generously donated by individuals and charitable Trusts throughout the country. Last year, we directly helped 2,279 people through our project work and a further 335,932 people through our website, our forums and our downloadable information resources. We are seeing demand for our services shoot up as our profile increases. And we now predict that next year our capacity will need to increase by at least 100%. In order to cope and carry out our plans for this year, we need to ensure we have enough volunteers and that we can raise at least 300,000. OCD ruins lives. It is a sad fact that many people with OCD delay seeking help.
