It's only my second pastel painting to date. I am pleased with the result. 11"x17" on gray Canson Mi Tientes paper. I bought a set of Rembrandt soft pastels a few months ago and have been meaning to use them and just recently got the chance. This is defenitely not my favorite work in the world but I think if I practice with these I could produce some better stuff. I love the smoothness that can be achieved with them. Ben wanted this drawing to give to his girlfriend Kami. It was a little smaller than I am used to, but it was a fun drawing to do. Since the drawing was smaller, I decided to leave it unblended. This drawing was kind of fun, it was alot different pose than I am used to doing.Danielle 5.26.06- I am saddened to report that my drawings were not selected for the show. I guess the juror didn't like pencil drawings or something. When I went to pick them up from the Grand Rapids Art Museum, all the volunteers could not believe that I wasn't chosen. Oh well, I will get them next year. Anyways, I have been working on a drawing for my friends Kenny Groeneveld and Jennie Lanting who are getting married in October. I spent the better part of May on this drawing. It took a very long time. After I started the drawing I had the idea to put 2 interlocking wedding rings at the bottom. Then I thought it would be cool if they were the actual rings that Kenny and Jennie are going to wear. So I had them come over to my house so I could take some pictures of the rings. It's an art show put on anually in the city of Grand Rapids. They allow local artists to submit 2 pieces which were created in the past year. I have decided to submit Armin Mersmann's Portrait and Little Things. Last week I had them both framed and matted and I have to submit them this coming week. I still have a little bit of tweaking I want to do to the Armin Mersmann drawing because there are little things about it that I am unhappy with, starting with the hand. If my drawings are selected to be in the show, they will be displayed at the Grand Rapids Art Museum this summer. Wish me luck :) 4.28.06- New colored portrait drawing of Lacey Chabert added to the gallery. I have always liked the reference picture of Lacey so I decided to draw her. The drawing was done with Prismacolor colored pencils. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.
