Who We Are

Bay Street Players at The State Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission, since its founding in 1974, is to provide entertainment and education for the residents of Central Florida through production of the theatrical arts, which allow students and artists to learn and practice their craft.

The theatre presents no less than five main stage productions each year, supplemented by a regular schedule of avant-garde performances, limited-engagements, benefits, and other special events. The theatre brings cultural experiences to young people who have limited access to the arts by offering students the opportunity to learn in a live production environment through the Young People’s Theatre program—among the longest running youth theatre education initiatives in the nation. The theatre provides a creative outlet for volunteers of varied skill sets, and community engagement extends far beyond the theatre’s walls. The theatre consistently participates in many local events, including First Fridays, GeorgeFest, the African American Heritage Festival, and the Amazing Race for Charity, among others.

At The State Theatre, we believe community theatre can be a means of fostering social understanding. We welcome everyone regardless of race, socioeconomic status, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, neurological or physical ability, and education level. We believe in equality and inclusion for all.

Support Us

The State Theatre would cease to exist without the support of its community.

The revenue from our patrons’ subscriptions and ticket sales accounts for less than 50% of the theatres annual operating budget. Donations are vital for us to continue providing quality entertainment and educational opportunities to the residents of Central Florida.

Volunteers are also essential to the ongoing success of The State Theatre. We welcome volunteers of all skillsets and anyone willing to learn! Click here to inquire with our Volunteer Coordinator.
