Dear Chehalis School District Community,As we reflect on recent events sparked by the death of Mr. George Floyd and Juneteenth (the celebration of the final end to slavery in the United States in 1865), we know that the work we have engaged in with our staff and students around racism and equity is an ongoing vital commitment. We acknowledge that as a nation, a community, a school district, and as educators, we have an immense responsibility to address racism and the systems that perpetuate it.We will continue to advocate for equity in resources and educational opportunities for all students. We will look at our systems to identify barriers and work to remove those barriers. Chehalis staff and administrators are engaging in professional development to deepen their knowledge and skill around culturally responsive teaching strategies that will help address the achievement gap. Our work on equity will challenge us, our students, our families, and our community members to combat biases, closed mindsets, stereotypes, and systems of institutional racism. Our goal is to become an equitable system that creates student leaders for today and tomorrow who know and understand that race and diversity matter. We will continue our work on creating safe, supportive, respectful and welcoming academic environments for all students.Dr. Christine Moloney, Superintendent on behalf of the Chehalis SD School Board
