OUR FOCUS

There is inadequate diverse representation in Cycling competition, business, media, and development opportunities. To sustainably grow our industry, we must first build authentic foundations of diversity from within that don’t employ superficial or exploitive solutions. With ears on the ground in these communities, we can provide the education, access, and opportunities that directly address the barriers they face. We will start in North America and expand globally, because this is a global problem.

OUR SOLUTION

Typical solutions donate bikes or gear but tend to neglect the next step in the cyclists’ journey, whether that be coaching, education, or access.

We invest in areas that create sustainable paths for cycling as a lifelong passion. Our four pillars feed into each other creating solutions that provide entry points at each step of a cyclist’s journey.

PHASE 1

PUMPTRACK

Pumptrack Initiative

Our first initiative at Grow Cycling Foundation is building a Velosolutions Pumptrack in Los Angeles, California.

We have been working closely with Velosolutions to make sure that the pumptrack can not only support that capacity of such a location, but that it is a world class course ready to host amazing events for years to come.

We are building a 30,000 square foot pumptrack and the estimated cost per square foot is $40. This means that we need $1.2 Million to acheive our vison of bringing a cycling ecosystem to an area that has never had this opportunity.

Eliot is a former World Cup Downhill Mountain Bike Racer, Presenter for Red Bull TV, and an entrepreneur. Eliot has worked on marketing campaigns that have reached millions of people and is a published author in multiple national and international magazines.

KATIE HOLDEN

VICE CHAIRWOMAN

Katie has been involved in the cycling community for nearly twenty years, through racing, media work, community outreach, and as a brand ambassador. She is passionate about getting new and diverse voices exposed through cycling.

JOI JACKSON

PRESIDENT

Joi is the former owner of investment banking firm, Transglobal Capital. She has board, fundraising and executive-level nonprofit experience at several organizations including Glaser Pediatric AIDS, Magic Johnson Foundation, and AAUW. Joi also led targeted communication initiatives for the Obama presidential campaign.

AMADO STACHENFELD

DIRECTOR OF MEDIA OPS

Amado has spent the last 10 years working as a commercial, narrative, and documentary cinematographer for brands like Nike, Apple, and Patagonia. After racing professionally on the World Cup Downhill circuit, he found a way to combine his enthusiasm for cycling with his love of visual storytelling.

WHY WE'RE HERE

Grow Cycling Foundation was created in recognition that the cycling world is not immune from a culture of exclusivity. GROW creates new avenues for inclusive community building and career development in the cycling industry as well as empowering existing programs working to tear down barriers to entry for underrepresented people and communities. We want to expand the big welcoming tent of cycling so that every single person who longs to participate in the wonderful world of the outdoors has safe access and a real pathway of inclusiveness to do so. Cycling has a unique ability to address intersecting areas where specific communities have been long underserved. GROW starts with the basic human need of safety and how to ensure that everyone feels safe riding a bike, whether that be physical safety or psychological safety. We invest in programs that build belongingness in cycling by creating inclusive cycling spaces regardless of gender or ethnicity. We recognize that not everyone has equal access to outdoor experiences whether due to mobility, financial or educational barriers. We believe that everyone deserves to reap the physical, mental and social benefits of safety and belonging in cycling. By investing in cycling in diverse communities we can begin to address inequalities head on and from multiple fronts. We will start in North America and expand globally, because this is a global problem.
