A place to meet

Rheged is a gallery, café, cinema, shopping venue, workplace and creative space on the edge of the Northern Lakes. A place where friends, family and colleagues can share a meal, watch a film, hold a meeting, see an exhibition, buy a gift or catch up over coffee. A flexible space for getting together or enjoying time alone with a book or notepad; a place where stories are told, ideas are sparked and the Cumbrian landscape is a constant source of inspiration.

Our modern, independent gallery hosts a dynamic programme of events, bringing together established and emerging artists in curated and touring exhibitions. Inspired by the landscape and heritage on our doorstep, we look beyond the Lake District to celebrate British art and craft in all its diversity.

“Ukraine I Miss You”

An Exhibition of work by 12 Ukrainian Photographers curated by English documentary photographer Stuart Clarke.

When Putin and his Russian forces invaded Ukraine on 24 February, Stuart was motivated to do something meaningful to help. His thoughts quickly turned to helping his fellow photographers from the Ukraine. This Exhibition focuses on how the war is impacting the normal everyday lives of innocent people, in our European backyard. Stuart brought the exhibition to fruition with the help of several University of Cumbria students and Digitalab.

All 55 framed pictures in this exhibition will be for sale. All the proceeds will go directly to the Ukrainian photographers.

With its 60-foot giant screen and digital sound, our independent cinema offers an immersive experience unique in our region. A varied programme includes new releases, family favourites and live-streaming events to transport you into the world’s great theatres and opera houses.

Creative classes

Our programme of creative classes invites you get absorbed in making and creating, whether you’re a beginner who wants to try something new or an enthusiast looking to develop your skills. Enjoy hands-on inspiration from professional creatives and get into the flow alongside fellow learners in relaxed and sociable small groups. Classes take place in a spacious, light-filled room, where you will have your own dedicated workspace to allow for social distancing. Lunch is not included, but you can order fresh food and speciality coffee from Rheged’s Cafe and Deli.
