Joe Jesseph described himself as a seeker who did not always know what he was searching for, but looking back can see that his path consistently led, however winding, toward A Course in Miracles. Along the way he received an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming and spent many years as a college counselor as well as a licensed psychologist in private practice. During graduate school he was deeply influenced by Dr. Carl Rogers' Person-Centered approach to counseling and psychotherapy. Dr. Jesseph was interested in metaphysical and spiritual literature, studies in altered states of consciousness, psychic phenomena and parapsychology. Some of the important way stations along his path included the Edgar Cayce material, the Seth material by Jane Roberts, the writings of J. Krishnamurti and studies in yoga, including a two month residence at Esalen Institute and a month-long retreat with Joel Kramer and Diana Alstad. He had been a student of the Course since 1987 and a member of the Foundation for A Course in Miracles' staff from 1989-92. Since that time until his death he worked closely with the Foundation in a volunteer capacity. Through this website, Dr. Jesseph wrote about the Course. He regarded Dr. Kenneth Wapnick, President and principle faculty member of the Foundation for A Course in Miracles, as his teacher both academically and by the example of his life.

Describing ACIM
Students of ZenBuddhism see similarities between their spiritual understandings and approach,and that of the Course. Others find in it a message which is similarto that of J. Krishnamurti. Students of the Koran may appreciatethat the Course acknowledges it is only one of many spiritual paths whichall have the same goal of love and peace among all of humanity, who arebrothers in one God.
In the prefaceto the ACIM Text, which HelenSchucman wrote about a year after ACourse in Miracles had been published, she stated: It isnot intended to become the basis for another cult. Its only purpose isto provide a way in which some people will be able to find their own InternalTeacher." (Text, Preface, p. viii )
Being able toaccess that Internal Teacher is central to allowing forgivenesstoguide ones life in the world, hence to be at peace and of service.The Course is not about making a better world, but it is about making amore peaceful human being through the agency of spirit and the memory ofthe Love of God that the Internal Teacher holds for all in that partof spirit called mind. A better world will occur when minds arehealed of their ego beliefs in separation and competing interests.
