COVID-19 UPDATE:In response to increasing concerns around the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and in order to protect the health and wellbeing of artists, visitors, staff and the wider community, we have made the decision to postpone both the Derwent Art Prize exhibitions in London and in Paris. We have launched a virtual gallery so all the amazing artworks selected for the shortlist are still displayed. We have also decided to increase the People’s Choice Award to include an additional winner, now totaling 2 winners with a share of £1,000 prize money.THE DERWENT ART PRIZE The Derwent Art Prize aims to reward excellence by showcasing the very best 2D 3D artworks created in pencil or coloured pencil as well as water soluble, pastel, graphite and charcoal by British and International artists. Derwent, internationally renowned fine art brand, are proud to announce that the fifth instalment of the Derwent Art Prize is now open online in the form of a virtual gallery!The Derwent Art Prize was conceived in 2012 and aims to reward excellence by showcasing the very best artworks created in pencil by British and International artists.This year we received over 4500 entries from 72 different countries. From this 70 works were selected for display. The exhibition was due to be held at [email protected] in central London and then in a gallery in 20 rue Saint Claude in Paris, France. Due to the coronavirus outbreak the physical exhibitions have been postponed and we have moved to a virtual gallery online. The physical exhibition dates are to be confirmed.The winners of the First Prize, Second Prize, Young Artist First Prize and Young Artist Second Prize were announced on 22 April 2020. This year we have added an additional People s Choice Award so there will now be two winners who will receive £500 each. Voting for the People s Choice Award closes on the 1st May 2020 at 12 noon BST and the People’s Choice winners will be announced on 12 May 2020. We hope these exhibitions will go ahead as soon as possible but until then we hope you enjoy the virtual exhibition. THE PRIZESYoung Artist First Prize (For artists under 25 years) £4,000 *Young Artist Second Prize (For artists under 25 years) £2,000UPDATE: the People s Choice Award will now go to two artists who will both receive £500 each!In addition, we are delighted to announce that all the First and Second prize winners will receive a special box of Derwent Lightfast Pencils. The revolutionary core is resistant to prolonged colour change ensuring artwork will not fade for up to 100 years under museum conditions.*We will be announcing additional special awards for the Young Artist winner shortly.** Up to a monthly value of £50 (including postage)SELECTORS This year s entries were judged by a distinguished panel of selectors comprising of an artist, a critic and a curator SUBMISSION PROCEDURE PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DERWENT ART PRIZE 2020 IS NOW CLOSED FOR ENTRIESArtists are invited to submit up to 6 images. The selectors are aware that some work may not lend itself to reproduction and wish to reassure artists that there may be opportunities to view actual works.Artists can enter online.
