The Lines 1 뉴 올드: 전통과 새로움 사이의 디자인서울대학교 미술관 전관서울대학교 미술관은 독일국제교류처(ifa)와 큐레이터 폴커 알부스와의 협업을 통해 뉴 올드 – 전통과 새로움 사이의 디자인 전시를 개최합니다. 본 전시는 동시대 디자인에서 전통과 새로움 사이의 관계를 탐구하는 70여점의 작품을 소개하며 물질, 구조, 배치, 제작, 전통적 사용법이라는 테마를 중심으로 다양한 접근을 시도합니다. 전시에 참여한 45팀은 독일을 비롯한 유럽 국가들과 미국의 디자이너들로 구성되어 있으며, 한국 문화와의 연계를 통하여 국가 간의 교류를 시도합니다.일찍이 디자인은 어떤 문화의 종합적 이해를 위한 핵심적 특성으로 자리 잡았고, 우리는 디자인을 감상할 때 언제나 문화를 고려합니다. 디자인 양식은 그 문화의 전통을 보여주는 동시에 새로움을 창조해낼 수 있습니다. 성공적인 표현 양식(idiom)들은 곧잘 모방되고 변주되지만, 사실 “새로운” 것으로서 소비되는 모티브들은 대부분 역사적인 맥락이나 관례적인 표현 양식으로부터 유래합니다. 새로운 모티브들은 전통적 형식에 대한 새로운 해석을 보여주면서 하나의 국가 혹은 문화를 표현한다고 할 수 있습니다. 이번 전시에서는 사물(object)의 “새로움(new)”과 “오래됨(olds)”이라는 측면을 살펴보고 각각의 차이와 새로운 결합에 대해 논의하며, 리사이클링(recycling)과 리디자인(redesign)의 현주소를 보여주고자 합니다. 이와 더불어 고전적 디자인의 변형과 신소재를 활용한 전통적 제작 방식 또한 살펴볼 것입니다.전시부문 : 제품 및 가구 디자인, 영상 등 총 80여점 (해외 50점, 국내 약 30점)참여작가 : 총 52명(혹은 팀)Nina Kappenstein, BIG-GAME, COMPANY, Constantin Boym, Chris Kabel,   Kilian Schindler, Ineke Hans, Eva Marguerre, Silvia Knüppel, David Hanauer, Studio Niels Sven, Laura Bernhardt, Studio Makkink Bey, Frank Willems, EL Sajjadah, Cordula Kehrer, Silke Wawro, Sebastian Herkner, Volker Albus, Sandra Schollmeyer, Katrin Sonnleitner, Daniel Juric, Khashayar Naimanan, Karen Ryan, Pieke Bergmans – Design Virus, Émilie Voirin, Jérôme Nelet, Richard Hutten, 김자형, 소은명, 양웅걸, 이보람, 주세균, Fabrikr, MaezmThe Lines 900mm * 1850 * 400 / wood, elastic bands / 2014 / shelving unitThe modern material like the elastic band is used to express the cross stripped door lattice of Korean traditional house. And the practicality has been improved with convenient usability to put things in and take things out freely by using the elastic band. It can be designed with various multicolored  stripes in series.These bands which are applied to the furniture are the best materials to included an aesthetic value in many colors, patterns and functionality of furniture.          Band = Color+PatternThis work is reinterpreted the door gratings of Korean traditional house with the modern material such as the elastic bands. And also the various colors are blended in multicolored stripes modernly.The Lines 1Function of BandThe characteristics of rubber band can replace functions of a door, a lattice, a hinge and a doorknob of existing furnitures infinitely.The process of uses such as opening, recognition of object, taking out, putting in, closing furnitures is skipped by intuitively, opening the band, and putting hands in.This matches up with demands of the busy modern society.
