Nov 18 2021 Principles of Leadership fromNehemiah

I love the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. I have been studying it off and on for the past month or so. I have already written some articles on the first two chapters of Nehemiahs book. I invite you to read them.

Nov 17 2021 Difficult Days arehere

I was encouraged by our lesson on the Apostle Pauls second epistle to his best disciple, Timothy. It was a sobering lesson because of the nature of it. I believe that it is a necessary lesson for our modern world. Our time was spent studying chapter three of the epistle. Chapter three has a shocking beginning. Continue reading

Nov 10 2021 The Scriptures lead us toChrist

I am excited to spend some time this evening with our TT kids during AWANA. They have been learning about the importance of the Word of God. Tonight, we are going to focus on how the Scriptures lead us to faith in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul explains the vital role of the Scriptures when it comes to placing our faith in Jesus Christ.

14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the Sacred Writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (II Timothy 3)

The Sacred Writings is a reference to the Holy Scriptures. Timothys mother and grandmother taught him the Scriptures from his early childhood. The Scriptures opened Timothys mind and led him to place his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This echos something very similar that Jesus told the Pharisees. Continue reading

Nov 3 2021 The POWER of the Word ofGod

Last night I had the privilege of teaching the Apostle Pauls second epistle to his beloved disciple, Timothy. The lesson was based on chapter two. The previous lesson was also based on chapter two on the importance of entrusting the Word of God to faithful people. Second Timothy is a treatise on discipleship. According to Paul in his famous epistle to the Romans, he declared: Continue reading

Oct 27 2021 Naturalism is vanity

This coming Wednesday evening, I have the privilege of teaching our high school kids during AWANA at Southern Calvert Baptist Church. I get to meet with the Journey kids about once a month and study the Bible. The last time that we met, we studied a lesson on Apologetics. The Apostle Peter encourages us in his first epistle to be ready at all times to make a defense of the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. I was greatly encouraged to see how sharp these teens are when it comes to understanding the Scriptures and applying what they learn. Continue reading

Oct 26 2021 Abraham and Melchizedek

I am very excited to prepare our Connect Group lesson for this coming Sundays Fifth Sunday combined Connect Groups. Whenever we have a fifth Sunday on the calendar, all of our adult Connect Group classes combine for one class in the sanctuary. It is nice to get together in a room with almost 100 different people and meditate on the Word of God. As a church, we have spent the past two months studying through the book of Genesis. It has been a wonderful journey and no matter how many times you have read these stories in Genesis, they come alive each time through. Our last lesson covered the topic of how the same Gospel that we proclaim today is the same Gospel that was preached to Abraham almost 4,000 years ago. Continue reading

Oct 20 2021 Entrust the Gospel to faithfulpeople

Last night, I had the privilege of studying the second chapter of the Apostle Pauls second epistle to his beloved disciple, Timothy. The previous lesson was from chapter one and the theme was about retaining the standard of the Gospel. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are challenged to reach out to others and help them up to the standard of the Gospel. We live in a society that encourages us to lower the standard to the lowest common denominator. This is a disastrous ideology because it kills incentive. Instead, we are to attain the standard of the Gospel and give a hand up to others so that they can attain the standard as well. In this lesson, we are going to discover the secret to entrusting the Gospel to faithful people who will also retain the standard of the Gospel as they teach others to do the same. Here is just a quick testimony from one of the students who attended last nights lesson. Continue reading

Oct 6 2021 Retain the Standard

My wife and I are teaching a Bible study on Saint Pauls second epistle (letter) to his beloved disciple, Timothy. This is Pauls final letter. He has served the Lord faithfully for many years. He has made many disciples and seen many new churches planted. He has run his race and he is finishing well. Not all of his disciples were faithful to the high calling of following Jesus Christ. Many had turned away from Paul in some of his most difficult times. Timothy, on the other hand, has stood beside his mentor faithfully. The entire epistle teaches followers of Christ how to guard the treasure of the Gospel. Chapter one teaches that part of guarding the treasure of the Gospel is maintaining the standard of the Gospel. We live in an age where we are constantly told to lower the bar to the lowest common denominator. We see this in our public schools with the no child left behind policy. Continue reading

Oct 5 2021 The Holiness ofGod

I am preparing a lesson for our TT kids of AWANA. It is about the holiness of God. This is an important lesson for our youngsters to learn and understand because it impacts all of humanity. The holiness of God is not a topic that is taught on much these days. Our society reflects that. All of us need to learn about the holiness of God and how it impacts us on a daily basis. Continue reading

Sep 30 2021 Evangelism and Equipping

I had the blessing last night of meeting with our middle schoolers during AWANA. We began studying the Gospel of Luke. This man named Luke is only mentioned by name three times in the Scriptures. The name Luke means light-giving. It comes from the Latin name Lucanus. Luke was a trained medical doctor. He would have received what we call a classical education. Dr. Luke was taught how to do research and to pay attention to the details. Dr. Luke put his research training and love of details to use and blessed all of humanity as a result. I will expound on that a little later on in this article. Before we jump into the Gospel of Luke, I would like to examine the final command that Jesus gave to His disciples before ascending into heaven. Continue reading
