WEALDEN SUPPORTS A CLEANER COUNTRYSIDETuesday, 21 July, 2020Wealden District Council is supporting the Great British September Clean, taking place from Friday 11 to Sunday 27 September.It’s a good reason for anyone who’s been stuck indoors over the spring and summer months to get out in the fresh air and socialise in a safe and managed environment.Earlier this year Wealden provided over 30 groups with litter picking equipment in preparation for the Great British Spring Clean which was due to start in March. The event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AWARD FOR NEW HAILSHAM SCHOOLTuesday, 21 July, 2020THE CONSTRUCTION of a new 420-place school in Hailsham has been named ‘project of the year’ at a national awards ceremony.Development of Hailsham Community College Primary Academy, a collaboration between East Sussex County Council and Morgan Sindall Construction, won the category ‘Building project of the Year under £10 million’ in the Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards 2020.The scheme was finished 11 weeks ahead of schedule allowing the first cohort of Reception children to move into the new school, part of Hailsham Community College Academy Trust, in September 2019. We are sad to hear that Peter Holloway, a former Wealden District Councillor and long-serving Chairman of Forest Row Conservatives, passed away peacefully in hospital on Sunday 21 June. Peter was elected as a District Councillor in 2011, representing Forest Row until 2019.  He served on many committees including Planning Committee North, Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Licensing Committee and the Standards Committee.  He was also the Council’s representative for the Conservators of Ashdown Forest.Members and officers at Wealden Conservatives as well as fellow councillors and council leaders offer their condolences to Peter’s family at this very difficult time.
