CITEThe Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE) was established in June 1998 to provide intellectual leadership and support to promote the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for quality education in Hong Kong. CITE supports several quality academic programmes coordinated by the Division of Information and Technology Studies of the Faculty of Education. These programmes are offered to teachers, educators and education-related professionals to meet their increasing needs and interests in furthering their studies and to equip them with the necessary academic and professional knowledge about IT in education.In addition, the Centre provides in-service professional development training to teachers and principals in the use of IT in teaching and learning. Besides, CITE is also committed to provide consultancy services to the community on various aspects of the development of the educational use of IT and to establish close connections with the education, technology and business sectors of the community at large. The UNESCO Institute of Statistics’ (UIS) Global Alliance to Monitor Learning (GAML) commissioned the Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE) at the University of Hong Kong for the project, Developing a global framework of reference on digital literacy skills for SDG indicator 4.4.2.: Percentage of youth/adults who have achieved at least a minimum level of proficiency in digital literacy skills. The final report: A Global Framework of Reference on Digital Literacy Skills for Indicator 4.4.2 has been published by UNESCO and downloadable from here.Self-Directed Learning in Science with e-learning Support for Learner Diversity and Smooth Primary-Secondary TransitionLearn moreThis project aims to provide support to teachers and schools to implement self-directed learning (SDL) in the Science KLA in the upper primary (P.4-6) General Studies and lower secondary (S1-3) Integrated Science subject in Hong Kong schools. The capacity building support for SDL encompasses three core areas: learning and assessment design and implementation for integrating SDL components in the science KLA, e-Learning support for students’ learning and teachers’ pedagogical design activities for scientific inquiry, and leadership for organizational change and development for pedagogical and assessment innovation. The ultimate, overarching goal is to nurture and develop student’s self-directed learning ability and equip them to become confident and capable life-long learners in the 21st century so as to improve students’ self-efficacy and achieve smooth transition from primary to secondary school education in the science KLA.
