Rhamnolipid Applications
Rhamnolipid Agriculture
Rhamnolipid Biosurfactants stops plant pathogens from reproducing. When rhamnolipid is added to agricultural applications, it also eradicates vine rot. Some micronutrients such as iron are not normally dissolvable in water. Iron is a critical nutrient for plants. Rhamnolipid assists in the delivery of iron to plants.
Soil Washing
Since the Rhamnolipids naturally occur at a contaminated soil site and since there are no harmful products of the natural breakdown of the Rhamnolipids, Rhamnolipids are a natural solution to hydrocarbon remediation.
Surfactant EOR
Since Rhamnolipids function as an emulsifier to break apart the fluid hydrocarbons, as a surfactant, the Rhamnolipid help transport the hydrocarbons away from being locked up in rock and soil.
Other Rhamnolipid Applications.
Welcome to the Rhamnolipid Education Website
This website is dedicated to the understanding of Rhamnolipid. Included is a list of Rhamnolipid applications and the science behind those applications.
Included among other things are detailed descriptions of Rhamnolipid applications and the science behind them.Pseudomonas Aeruginosa into a Biosurfactant
Rhamnolipids are everywhere. They are found everywhere common bacteria exist: on humans, pets, indoors, and in the soil. Rhamnolipid can also be found in fresh water and salt water environments. Rhamnolipid allows pseudomonas aeruginosa to thrive in adverse environments. Rhamnolipid is an effective bio-surfactant. Biosurfactants are surfactants that are produced by bacteria, yeasts and fungi. They are green, non-toxic, renewable from nature, environmentally friendly, and easy to produce. Rhamnolipids are created by fermentation and is used in the following ways: In it's crudest form, it it used as a bio-surfactant. When it is purified, it is used as an anti-fungal/anti-bacterial application that creates a biofilm to block the formation of other bacteria. In it's purest formation, it is used in cosmetic and pharmaceutecal applications. Rhamnolipids are renewable from nature, the only carbon footprint that they leave is the electrical power needed to power the fermentation tanks and some solvents that can be reused. If the need for electrical power is eliminated and replaced by solar power, the carbon footprint would be near zero.
Rhamnolipid allows pseudomonas aeruginosa to thrive in adverse environments. The utility of Rhamnolipid is that they are a very effective biosurfactant. Biosurfactants are surfactants that are produced by bacteria, yeasts and fungi. They are green, non-toxic, renewable from nature, environmentally friendly and easy to produce.
Rhamnolipid Discovery. Identified as early as 1947 by Jarvis and Johnson*, Rhamnolipid is a compound produced by a common bacterium, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. Rhamnolipid is basically secreted from Bacteria. Bacteria are single cell microorganisms and they are found everywhere on earth.
Rhamnolipid is a chemical secreted from the bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa. Bacteria are single cell microorganisms and they are found everywhere on earth. Bacteria are ubiquitous in every habitat on earth. They grow in soil, acidic hot springs, radioactive waste, sea water, and deep in the Earth's crust. There are typically 40 million bacterial cells in a gram of soil and a million bacterial cells in a milliliter of fresh water. In all, there are trillions of different bacteria in the world. Bacteria are vital in recycling nutrients, and many important steps in nutrient cycles depend on bacteria, such as the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere. However, most of these bacteria have not been characterized, and only about half of the phyla of bacteria have species that can be cultured in the laboratory. The study of bacteria is known as bacteriology.
Rhamnolipid BioSurfactants
There are many applications that Rhamnolipids are being used in presently as a surfactant. A surfactant is a compound that lowers the surface tension of a liquid, increasing the contact between the liquid and another substance. Basically it is a soap!
Rhamnolipid as a surfactant.Surfactants are also referred to as wetting agents. SURFACTANT-a compound that when added to a liquid, reduces the surface tension of that liquid which allows easier spreading, and lowering of the interfacial tension between two liquids, or a solid and a liquid. There are a wide variety of these surfactant “soaps” that work with oil, water, and many other liquids. The word SURFACTANT stands for SURFace ACTive Agent, whereas they seek out a surface. The surfactant Rhamnolipid is biodegradable, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. Below are some Rhamnolipid Surfactant Applications. Rhamnolipid Biofilms, household cleaning applications Rhamnolipid Mining, metal sequestering Rhamnolipid Food Applications, Rhamnolipids have many applications in food processing whereas they function as emulsifiers and stabilizers in food processing applications. They also assist in the general mixing of ingredients. Rhamnolipids will emulsify polar (water and alcohols) and non-polar (fats and oils) fliuds so they stay mixed Paint emulsifiers, Environmentally safe paints Cosmetic emulsifiers, replacing SLS/SLES that are toxic © 2004 -2022, Rhamnolipid, Inc.
