…well, coverage might be too big of a word since Toni Collette didn’t attend the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards and didn’t win as Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for “The Staircase”. The award went to Amanda Seyfried’s portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in “The Dropout”. Still, you can catch 2 seconds of Toni in the Lead Actress segment above and in the video archive. Thanks to the Emmys Youtube channel for posting full segments of the award categories and not only the winners. Much appreciated.

Sep092022Mafia MammaBleecker Street nabs “Mafia Mamma” for 2023 theatrical release

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bleecker Street has unveiled an exclusive output deal with indie distributor levelFILM for the Canadian market. As the Toronto Film Festival kicked into gear, Bleecker Street said levelFILM will release north of the border films for which the U.S. partner has North American or worldwide rights. The first title set to be released under the new joint venture will be Catherine Hardwicke’s action comedy Mafia Mamma, starring Toni Collette and Monica Belucci, which is set for a domestic release in 2023. Bleecker Street’s upcoming slate includes Frances O’Connnor’s Emily, starring Emma Mackey and debuting in Toronto this week; Golda, starring Helen Mirren and directed by Academy Award winner Guy Nattiv; What Happens Later, directed and starring Meg Ryan; and The Tutor, directed by Alice Troughton and starring Richard E. Grant, Julie Delpy and Daryl McCormack. levelFILM has an upcoming slate that includes Lindsay MacKay’s The Swearing Jar and Rob Connolly’s Blueback.

Sep082022Awards & Nominations, Featured, The StaircaseFlashback: 5 times Toni Collette received Emmy nominations (or won)

On Monday (for whatever reason Monday), the Primetime Emmys will be handed out in Los Angeles – and Toni Collette is among the nominees this year as Outstanding Lead Actress for “The Staircase”. Since this marks Toni’s fifth Emmy nomination, it’s about time to revisit her previous roles that got her on the ballots. Getting recognition for your work is wonderful – and with the abundance of great tv series being nominated is great – but winning is about keeping your narrative, and since Toni doesn’t exist in the public eye, except when she’s promoting her work (which has become quite rare), I don’t think that a) her performance in “The Staircase” will be named a winner and b) she will be attending the ceremony, since she has only attended two times out of her five nominations. I stand corrected if she does.

Sep032022The Estate“The Estate” to world-premiere at BFI London Film Festival this October

This is a fast one. “The Estate”, directed by Dean Craig and starring Toni Collette, Anna Faris, David Duchovny and Kathleen Turner, was filmed this March and is already scheduled for its world-premiere on October 06, 2022 at the BFI London Film Festival. A first picture has been released, alongside the comedy’s official synopsis:

The whole family hates cranky, sickly Aunt Hilda (Kathleen Turner). And she loathes them right back. What everyone loves, however, is dying Hilda’s alleged fortune. The woman’s cash-strapped nieces, ruthless Savanna (Anna Faris) and guilt-ridden Macey (Toni Collette), are banking on a little last-minute fawning and flattery in ensuring their aunt will change her will in their favour. Unfortunately, they’re not the only scheming relatives. A scurrilous farce that starts in bad taste and becomes increasingly perverse, The Estate’s crack ensemble cast – including Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston and David Duchovny – are clearly having a blast. Blending surreal non-sequiturs with sexual slapstick, British writer-director Dean Craig’s (Death at a Funeral) gleeful irreverence ensures that the family who preys together very much pays together.

Hello everybody. For a complete list of updates, have a look at the list below. Enjoy your weekend.
