Close Austin Ellias Austin Ellias AustinEllias | Marine Repair Technician Bringing in experience.Austin is a Marine Corps veteran, who had a job in the service using similar skills as he is learning in the Marine Repair Technician program.   Earning national scholarships.He was awarded the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas Technical School Scholarship.  Skills for his own business.Austin currently works full-time at Bretting Manufacturing and plans to use his marine repair skills to have his own business on the side.  An active leader.Austin is an active leader in Student Senate on campus.  Close Angie Ramos Angie Ramos Angie Ramos | Architectural Commercial Design Angie is a first-generation college student. Before attending WITC, Angie started her college experience at a four-year university. A lack of knowledgeable instructors caused Angie to explore other colleges, which brought her to WITC.  A fast track for success. Angie was amazed at the work the students in her program are able to do after being in the program for just a short time.  Angie works overnights, full time. While attending courses full time at WITC, Angie also works full-time as an overnight registrar in an emergency department.  Ambitious and hard working. Angie knew immediately that WITC was the college for her. She believes she's exactly where she needs to be to receive the education she needs to fulfill her ambitious dreams.  Close Carter Hartling Carter Hartling Carter Hartling | IT-Systems Administration Specialist Carter started college in high school. In high school, Carter took several free dual-credit classes such as Excel, Word, business management and accounting at the advice of his teacher.  Carter saved time, money and commute.Carter is thankful he spared himself time, money and commute by earning several WITC college credits ahead of his high school graduation. He also liked the freedom and pace of his dual credit classes.  He felt confident entering college. Carter felt the transition to WITC was easy, already having done college-level work and being in-the-know of how college classes operate.  Carter changed programs. Carter originally started in the business management program and later switched to IT-Systems Administrative Specialist after becoming familiar with other WITC programs.  Close Anessa Lawrence Anessa Lawrence Anessa Lawrence |Occupational Therapy Assistant University Transfer Degree: Liberal Arts-Associate of Arts Anessa transferred to WITC from a four-year college. After going to college out-of-state for two years, Anessa moved back home to Superior and transferred her credits to WITC.  Savings Scholarships. Living at home with her parents, Anessa is saving money on both living and tuition costs – spending less than half of what she would spend as a freshman at a UW campus. She also received scholarships to cut her costs.  A deeper relationship. Anessa enjoys the smaller classes and feels the instructors truly know and support her. She says she gets a response to questions quickly from her instructors, even on the weekends.  Flexible classes to fit her life. Anessa does classes online, in person and through ITV. She eventually learned English through school and on her own with a dictionary.At 17, Maria left high school to take care of her new baby. Ten years later she walked into WITC for her GED to create a better life for herself and her children. With a community of support, Maria was able to complete the nursing program while holding down a job and taking care of her two boys. Maria has now worked in the nursing field in various roles including as a nurse, a manager and as an instructor to others. She says caring for others has always come first for her ever since she helped take care of her grandmother when she was young.Jeff got a flyer from WITC after deploying to Iraq and thought he'd check out the Management and Leadership program. After hitting it off with his instructor and taking his first class with other working adult students, he knew it was the right fit. The evening classes allowed Jeff to be active in the Army National Guard and a part-time student, taking one class per semester on average with his military tuition assistance. Jeff spent 25 years in the military before retiring and taking on his new career. He says the people skills and learning how to create a good working environment were the most helpful in his transition to civilian-life management. Within two years of working at Verizon, Jeff was promoted to management where he managed three staging facilities and about 30 employees throughout the Midwest. He also was able to transfer all of his WITC credits to continue his education and obtain a bachelor's degree. Although Amber wasn't sure what career she wanted to pursue, she was sure that she wanted to do something important and she wanted to help people. The staff were always supportive to Amber and her daughter as they spent many evenings studying in WITC's Learning Resource Center. Amber felt passionate to apply her education to the community she was living, so in addition to working and taking classes, Amber also volunteered for the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse.Amber is now a program coordinator in the sexual assault program at the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse. She looks back on her time at WITC as a fantastic, accelerated program. Chet had several jobs, tried a university and community college and was in the military before landing at WITC, using his military tuition assistance. He decided on the architecture program after taking the career survey online. He had taken AutoCAD (2D drafting software) classes in high school and had a construction background, so the program was relevant to his interests and past experiences. Chet met what would soon be his employer through a class assignment to interview an architect, which led to an internship that turned into a full-time job. Chet helped lead the firm's transition to Revit (a new 3D drafting software), and helped teach others how to use the software. One of Chet's first major projects was a bank in River Falls.
