Minimally Invasive Surgery Frederick M. Azar, EditorEach year in the United States, over 3.5 million pediatric athletes and approximately 2 million high-school athletes suffer sports-related injuries. Professional athletes suffer more than 2000 injuries per 10,000 participants, placing them among the top 5 most-injured occupations. It’s no surprise, then, that a large percentage of orthopedic patients are athletes. Whether amateurs or professionals, most athletes are highly motivated to recover and rehabilitate and get back in the game. The articles in this issue provide practical pointers and valuable information about the treatment of orthopedic sports-related injuries, from hand fractures to hip impingement.
