Ocean Born Foundation

At Ocean Born Foundation we are 100% different.

Founded in December 2020, the Ocean Born Foundation is a grant-giving organisation whose ultimate goal is to create new, sustainable streams of income to combat climate change by focusing on ocean health.

We do this by bringing competitive, quality products to market, while minimising our environmental impact.

All profits from the brand and its products are directed towards initiatives dedicated to restoring and protecting the ocean.

At Ocean Born we recognise that we are interconnected with nature and with each other, and what we do to the planet and its living creatures, we do to ourselves.

Our goal is to mitigate the adverse effects we as humans are causing our ocean because global warming and the rapid deterioration of the ocean are a fact.

Doing something about it is a choice.

Our Activities

100% for the ocean

All Ocean Born activities exist to serve the ocean. This was not an afterthought: Ocean Born was born out of desire to bring more resources to the fight to save this little blue miracle we all call home.

As consumers we know that we must lower our consumption, prioritise quality over quantity and get to know the brands we do consume to ensure we are supporting the kind of future we want to see. This is embedded in our brand philosophy. Thus our products are made in the most planet-responsible way possible, of good quality and with literally 100% of their profits allocated to ocean restoration and protection.

So give us a go if you’re looking to have a beer with some friends, to replace an old hoodie or buy some gloves to attend your next park or beach clean-up.

Mission Statement

To accelerate ocean restoration and protection by bringing to market an environmentally-friendly brand of which 100% of profits are invested into restoring and protecting the ocean.

Our Vision

We envision a healthy blue planet for the long-term benefit of all life on Earth.

Our ultimate goal is to create new, sustainable streams of income to combat the climate crisis by focusing on ocean health. We aim to limit human-induced damage and restore ecosystems because we believe empowered consumers will, where they do not reduce consumption, choose ethical brands that minimise environmental impact and fund ocean restoration and protection.

Our mission and vision stem from the recognition that all activities have social and ecological impacts and that every form of investment, every choice of product and service, and every money flow decision has an impact. And, de facto, if the impact is not consciously benefiting social or ecological outcomes, it is quite likely damaging them. We want to turn this on its head with the most ambitious environmental standards on our products and the higher purpose of the sale of the product to be for the ocean’s benefit for double impact.

Why the ocean

Planet Earth is the “blue planet”, an ocean planet. The majestic ocean supports and sustains every living species on the planet. We simply cannot survive without a healthy ocean. With every breath we take, with every drop we drink, we’re connected to the ocean. We and all living things depend on its vitality to support and sustain us.In addition to its beauty, therapeutic powers and recreational opportunities, the ocean does the following…
IT ALLOWS US TO BREATHE: The ocean supplies 70% of the world’s oxygen.IT IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST CARBON SINKS:

Around 25% of all CO2 emissions are absorbed by the ocean where they can be store for millennia.

IT REGULATES OUR CLIMATE:The ocean transports heat from the equator to the poles, regulating our climate and weather patterns.IT FEEDS US:

The ocean is the number one source of protein for more than two billion people, making it a critical source of food. In addition to seafood, ingredients from the ocean are found in a surprising number of food and nutritional products.

IT IS HOME TO MUCH OF THE LIFE ON OUR PLANET:

Covering three-quarters of the Earth’s surface, containing 97% of the Earth’s water, and representing 99% of the living space on the planet by volume, the ocean is the world’s largest ecosystem. The ocean is home to nearly one million known species – and scientists estimate that 91% of ocean species have yet to be classified. There is an enormous untapped potential for scientific discovery.

IT IS CRITICAL TO OUR ECONOMY & TRANSPORTATION:The ocean is an important source of jobs and a major source of income. It contributes 2.5% of global GDP and provides employment to 1.5% of the global workforce. // The ocean is the main mode of transport for world trade. With c. 90% of traded goods carried over the waves, it connects cities and countries around the world, driving economic activity and trade.IT SUPPLIES US WITH MEDICINE: Many medicines originate from the ocean, including ingredients that help fight cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and heart disease.

Our role in this

But as powerful as the ocean is, we are now testing its limits and it finds itself at the edges of its resilience. The responsibility to restore the ocean back to health has fallen on all of us alive today. We are indeed the first to truly understand the problem – and the last with a chance to do anything about it.

The encouraging news is the rapid growth in number of individuals and organisations that understand the urgency and are taking action.

At Ocean Born Foundation we are fully committed to this global effort and are directing all of our resources to this.

Our purpose is clear: The ocean matters.
