Preliminary Announcement -NATIONAL GARDENS SCHEMEcomes to Northern Ireland.

A number of the Members of the old Ulster Gardens Scheme committee have been working during the Covid Restriction over the last 18-24 months to find a way to continue to private and other Open Gardens in Northern Ireland. Finally we are now in a position to announce that we have joined with the National Gardens Scheme to form theNational Gardens Scheme Northern Ireland.
We are currently putting the finishing touches to a full program of Open Garden in the 2022 Season. We hope officially announce the NGS NI in Sept or Oct 2021 with a full Press Launch of the the 2022 Program in Jan/Feb when The Garden Visitor's Handbook and the NGS NI Booklet will be available.

Important Statement 7th March 2020 Sadly we are unable to continue to operate the scheme:- "Owing to the proposed fundamental change in governance arrangements between the National Trust and the Ulster Gardens Scheme, the Ulster Gardens Scheme committee have, with great reluctance, decided that they are unable to continue to operate the scheme. Given the particular nature of the schemes fundraising activities, which demand considerable time, effort and personal expense, the committee feel that the additional responsibilities being imposed upon them are unduly onerous for a small group of volunteers. The committee regrets the future loss of enjoyment that the schemes open gardens have brought to the public over the past sixty years. Having reached this decision, the committee have allocated all residual funds held in the accounts of the Ulster Gardens Scheme to various National Trust garden projects in Northern Ireland."

Feb/March 2020 Important Holding Statement: The UGS Committee are sad to report that for a variety of reasons the Open Gardens Scheme will not operate in the 2020 season.
The hard working committee of volunteers are in discussions to attempt to rescue the situation!
More information will be released as soon as there is any update on the situation!

The Ulster Gardens Scheme raises funds for special projects in National Trust gardens within Northern Ireland through the opening of privately owned gardens to the public in a series of open days or visits arranged by appointment.

The scheme gives all of its earnings to be used for special jobs in National Trust gardens in Northern Ireland.
