Faders On Stun(2008) is Clockwise's third album and it's like a road map to the town you grew up in. The harmonies are the same and the vocals sound similar but there's something different... something has changed. It's called growth and progress. And with that warm feeling of nostalgia we get from this enjoyable visit, we also find some wonderful surprises. The third track, Surrender, is a refreshing song. It's borrowing of a Cheap Trick classic is part of that nostalgia and is the first happy surprise in an album full of happy surprises. Most of the songs on Faders On Stun start of with high energy and end on a slower more relaxed not but they always leave you wanting the next track. Right after Surrender, Boomtown comes in and brings a high impact thump that keeps you worked up for the southern rock sound of Work It Out. But perhaps the most interesting landmark on this road map is Upside Down. This track spins you round and round with it's dreamy, moody, feel reminiscent of someone slinking across a smoke filled honky tonk offering to buy you a drink.
Faders On Stun is brilliant... a perfect third album for these Canadian superstars. I only hope it's not their last.Tags: clockwise, eblison grun, faders on stun, reviewLeave a commentShareFlagLink Review: Fran Betlyon Apr. 14th, 2011 at 11:15 PM
ra_hawthorn I wouldn't have thought to call Fran Betlyon a country western singer, but her self titled cd tells me she is that and so much more. With the country strumming of the first track, Preacher's Daughter, the subtle jazzy rhythm of Antoinette Savage, and the folky feel of Aphrodite this cd is best explained as simple perfection. She takes us on a journey of love and life and lessons learned. It's a nostalgic journey of exploration that looks at everyday living in order to come to some self-discovery and it's all done within theses six sweet tracks. Cheers to Fran for scaling down from the electronic sounds and instruments on her previous cd, The Casio Tapes and for showing us that it's possible to blend a crystal clear voice and a singular guitar to tell a story and to involve everyone listening into that tale. Pick up the cd Fran Betlyon. You'll find yourself smiling, sighing and shedding a tear... and you'll love every minute of it.
Fran's website is at http://www.franbetlyon.com/ but you can also find her on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/fran.betlyon and you can get her music at http://franbetlyon.bandcamp.com/

ra_hawthornToo Little, Too Late(2007) is Clockwise's second album and definitely one that shows a real evolution from their first album Accidentally On Purpose(2000). I only wish there had been something within that seven year void to fill in the gap.
It's interesting what happens when you hit play. Too Little, Too Late kicks off with “See You Smile,” a song that starts with grungy guitar, sways into a “1963 Beatlesesque” vibe, and then shows us what it means to be modern power-pop The entire album follows that flow, and the intro to each song echoes one or two songs before it. But that's something to appreciate about this album. It's the thing that familiarizes you with Too Little, Too Late and reminds you that this is a reunion and a chance to celebrate what the band brings to the table. To my delight, I've found that what they actually bring to the table is a collection of tight instrumental arrangements and a clearly confident unruffled attitude behind the lyrics and vocals from beginning to end. This album also boasts the song You Are A Star which is currently in it's twenty-eighth week in www.musicworldradio.com's Top 20, something else to celebrate.
There's a definite Fab Four influence in Clockwise and it's safe to say that if they want to follow in the footsteps of the Beatles, an “invasion” of Canadian proportions is bound to charge through the indie pop scene with these guys leading at the front-lines.
Too Little, Too Late is worth more than a listen. It's worth owning and listening to over and over and over. And obviously Clockwise doesn't stop here. Their follow-up, Faders On Stun(2008) offers up more surprises and as much evolution but with less time between albums. Check them out on www.reverbnation.com/clockwise and make you ears happy. It's never too late.Tags: clockwise, eblison grun, music world radio, mwr, reviewLeave a commentShareFlagLink Eblison This Week on Music World Radio Mar. 31st, 2011 at 12:00 AM

I've taken too many breaks from my post at MWR. To be honest, I miss when I'm not on the air... but I've got that fixed. Starting Sunday, I'm going back to my usual four hour slot so that I can bring you the hottest rock and all your crazy requests, as well as a great big handful of some really cool Special Features. But before I do that, I'm going to be on Friday filling in for our very own DJ Terk from 11am to 1pm Pacific Standard Time, right before the Top20 Chart show. I'm kind of excited about this because even though I get to play whatever I want, I always feel like I'm watching dirty movies on someone else's DVD player. Terk is out of town, I'm house sitting for him, and there's smut all over the airwaves. It really is a lot of fun. So this week I'm going to play some great music that I'm just getting to know. My new pal, Dave Stephens is getting some play, so keep an ear open for him. Dave's stuff is really cool and I'm going to rope him in for a Special Feature just as soon as I can. I'm going to spin something by Peter Soros who is currently in the charts for the seventh week with his incredible tune Dragonship. Peter is a really great musician. He was my 30th Special Feature on Music World Radio and since I met him, I have been more than happy to play his work. Be sure to listen for a couple of bands that I was introduced to by a DJ from another internet station. Sparky took some time away from Shock Pop to tune into my show one week and turned me on to Two Sheds Jackson and Skeleton Staff. Every time I see Sparky around, I give massive thanks for that insider tip. And, I can't possibly forget the awesomeness that is Gil Arrives. Gil is a musician from France with a great sound and killer lyrics. They may be in French, and I am determined to speak the language someday, but no matter what languages you understand, this dude's tuneage is rockin and kicks a lot of butt. Clockwise is also going to make an appearance on Friday's show with a song that I don't think has been in our charts. So tune in Friday, it'll be a fun time for all.

Now Sunday, I'm going to really shake things up. As I said, I'm returning to my 4 hour slot this week. So what am I going to play? Well I got in touch with a killer metal band here in San Francisco. These guys pound it hard and heavy and I've listened to the cd while driving. It gave me the most joyous case of road rage. So I think what I'm going to do is play the first half of my show for the Rock and Requests crowd. It's your average stuff like Aerosmith, Kiss, AC/DC, and anything you request. The second half of the show, I'm going F'ing Hostile! I'm going to play some of the most killer metal and rock this side of Nod. And that's where this is where the San Francisco band comes in. These guys are Potential Threat, and I was pointed toward them by former bandmate Flint. I totally dig these guys and again, I am going to have to nab them for a Special Feature someday.
So do tune in. I have so much that I want to share with you, and remember if you make a request I'll play it if I have it and I usually have it. Its all about www.musicworldradio.com Sundays 2pm to 6pm Pacific Standard Time and a fill in for Terk this Friday at 11am PST. Tell your friends.Tags: clockwise, dave stephens, eblison, eblison grun, gil arrives, music world radio, mwr, peter soros, potential threat, skeleton staff, two sheds jacksonLeave a commentShareFlagLink By Demons and Devils and Madmen Feb. 25th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
ra_hawthornThis is something I wrote for a creativity exercise and posted in another blog. We were supposed to listen to a song and write freely for five minutes. The song was Arainhrod by Faith and The Muse. It's a very tribal song with drums and chanting and it starts off slow but quickly breaks into something fast and desperate. Read the poem and if you ever have a chance to hear Arainhrod, think about what you've read. I think you'll see how it fits.

By Demons and Devils and Madmen

Panic and run! She looks from side to side and bolts in terror. Sweat and tears, mud and grease. She tries to cry but it doesn't come out. Her bare feet blistered on the hot stone. She's lost! Eternally and internally. Chased by demons and devils and madmen. Poked at and prodded by spears, swords, and pitchforks and other stabbing tools. Run frightened bird! Run and hide! Run frightened bird! Not that way! Not this way! She turns to her left then to her right, and the fat trolls with the wicked toothed grins cackle at her desperation in this dire maze. Finally at the center. Flames licking at her heels. Blocking her way- the goat headed child; blocking her way- the androgynous winged babe; and allowing her passage- the elephant headed boy, offering nothing more but what she has! Nonetheless, it is a passage, and nothing ends us like giving up, so she runs only to make her way into a hot stone maze filled with flames and cackling and mud and grease, and demons and devils and madmen!

ra_hawthornFridays at www.musicworldradio.com are full of suspense. We begin with DJ Terk at 11:00 am PST. He's back on the team after taking a little breather and his return has gotten everyone full of anticipation. He tends to whip together a themed show from week to week and every one of them has been very cool. We listened to his Metal show, and his Goth show, and one of my all-time favorites was the Prince inspired Minneapolis Music Show ripe with sounds from the purple paisley god himself, Rosie Gaines, Morris Day and The Time, and Wendy and Lisa. I'm not sure what his show this week is about, but I know I'm not going to miss it and I know it's going to be a blast.

Following DJ Terkovian, at 1pm PST, is the ever-popular Top20 Chart Show on MWR, presented by DJ Magick. Every week we count down the Top 20 songs that you the listener voted for. Take a look at the last week's list.

With bands like Rudy Jr and The Lovepirates, who have had Stupid Chick Opus8 in our chart for 53 weeks straight (wow); Sweden's very own Maini Sorri, with her tune Someday; the Canadian band Clockwise with You're A Star; and from the US... California boy, Peter Soros, who has been compared to Jim Morrison and Echo and The Bunnymen... this show has a lot of people on the edge of their seat. And that's only a little portion of what goes on during the chart show. After the countdown, Magick will play This Week's Bubbly Upcomers, the artists who have the chance to get into the Top 20.

So join in the fun starting at 11pm PST every Friday... and don't forget to throw the DJs a bone in the shout box. Tell them Eblison sent you.

ra_hawthornThis is Eblison Grun for www.musicworldradio.comand I'm sharing with you the adventures and exploits of an internet DJ. Since I started at MWR, I've met and made friends with some really great musical artists and played some really great tunes, and with each of those is a really great story. So, I'll share with you all that and more... from promoting my fellow DJs and bands on the station, to giving you the behind the scenes of my show, Eblison's Sunday Special Feature. I'll also bring reviews and my own picks of some of the best tunes in the world.

Don't forget to stop by the station's web site. We have our adored top20 chart, where listeners can check out nominated artists and vote for their favorite. Every Friday we count down to number 1, the top 20 Music World Radio artists that you voted for. Also, during the show, you can drop into the shout box to chat with the DJ, the listeners, and maybe even you're favorite band.

Music World Radio has a great crew. With DJs from the UK, United States, Spain and Germany, you are guaranteed to find something that appeals to your ears. We break the barriers of genre and bring you pop, metal, punk, experimental, country, jazz, and anything else that fits in between. Take a look at our weekly schedule to find the DJ you like. Times here are Pacific Standard Time but on the site, they'll conform to whatever time zone you're in.

And that's our weekly round-up of DJs. The entries in red are all live and usually taking requests. Don't forget to talk to them in the shout box... they get like caged animals without meat when the box gets quiet. The blue entries, by the way, say non-stop music because even though we don't have a live DJ on at that hour, we always have great music playing. The auto stream is put together by the DJs at MWR and is just a sampling of some of what you'll hear on the live shows throughout the week.

Well, that's it for me for now... Keep your eyes peeled here for more of my musical journal and keep your ears tuned to MWR for some killer tunes.

If you're interested in following me on
facebook click here and make me your friend. If you're a musician who wants music played on the station, drop me an email with music you want played and a little info about the band, and I'd be happy to give it go.
