Our mission is to promote the advancement of the chemical and related sciences. We believe the best way to achieve this is through open science practices. The results of all of our projects are freely available to the scientific community. We work with scientists worldwide on our open access journals, data standardization projects and symposia. Our core projects are: The Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry and the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. These two platinum open access journals are interconnected with our organic chemistry, biochemistry and nanotechnology symposia, where the focus is on intensive scientific discussion and exchange. Hicks, Member of the Board of Management of the Beilstein-Institut, retired on January 31, 2021. He has held numerous functions and played a significant role in the development of the Beilstein-Institut for over 35 years. As his successor, the foundation council has appointed Dr. Wendy Patterson, who takes on her new role as of February 1, 2021.Dr. Wendy Patterson, a native of the United States, is a physicist who joined the scientific editorial team of the Beilstein-Institut in 2014. In 2016, she became Managing Editor of the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. Three years later, she also took over the role as Managing Editor of the Beilstein Archives, which is currently a preprint server for the Beilstein journals. With her experience in various scientific disciplines and her broad international network, she will continue the successful work of her predecessor.The continuity of the foundation s activities, which are centered on long-term projects supporting information and communication, will be maintained under the new leadership.
